Sequence analysis of the Rickettsia prowazekii gyrA gene

Gene, 1994
The Rickettsia prowazekii (Rp) gyrA gene, which codes for a subunit of DNA gyrase in this obligate intracellular bacterium, has been isolated and characterized. Nucleotide sequence analysis revealed an open reading frame (ORF), initiating with a GTG start codon, of 2718 bp that could encode a protein of 905 amino acids (aa) with a calculated M(r) of ...

Mapping of markers in the gyrA-his region of Escherichia coli

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1984
Discrepancies between our mapping data concerning the cdd and gat marker of Escherichia coli and data obtained by Josephsen et al. (1983) as well as with the current linkage map of Escherichia coli (Bachmann 1983) led us to reinvestigate the mapping of markers in the gyrA-his region by P1 transduction.

Influence of recA mutations on gyrA dependent quinolone resistance

Biochimie, 1991
We examined, in Escherichia coli, the influence of recA mutant alleles on the level of quinolone resistance promoted by mutations in the gyrA gene. We found that the recA142 mutation, abolishing all the activities of RecA protein, greatly reduced the level of resistance to the quinolone ciprofloxacin, whereas the recA430 allele affecting the SOS ...

Use of a LightCycler gyrA mutation assay for identification of ciprofloxacin-resistant Campylobacter coli.

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2002
A fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based assay has been employed to detect mutations at the 86 codon in the DNA gyrase A (gyrA) gene in Campylobacter coli strains. These mutations were associated with ciprofloxacin resistance in strains isolated in

Anaerobic expression of the gyrA gene

FEMS Microbiology Letters, 1988
Abstract E. coli C600Δ lac was infected with a Mu- lac defective phage. Lysogens resistant to ampicillin (25 μg/ml) and nalidixic acid (20 μg/ml) were unable to grow anaerobically and insensitive to nalidixic acid (150 μg/ml), indicating formation of gyrA ::Mu- lac fusions.

LightCycler gyrA mutation assay (GAMA) identifies heterogeneity in GyrA in Salmonella enterica serotypes Typhi and Paratyphi A with decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin

International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 2003
Mutations in gyrA in strains of Salmonella enterica serotypes Typhi and Paratyphi A have been characterised by a LightCycler-based PCR-hybridisation gyrA mutation assay (GAMA) and by DNA sequencing. Four mutations (Ser-83 to Phe, Asp-87 to Asn, Ser-83 to Tyr and Asp-87 to Gly) have been identified in 13 strains of Typhi and three strains of Paratyphi A

Gene organization in the dnaA-gyrA region of the Streptomyces coelicolor chromosome

Gene, 1994
The gene organization has been determined for an 8-kb portion of the Streptomyces coelicolor chromosome close to the origin of DNA replication (oriC). Hybridization and DNA sequence analyses revealed the presence of five open reading frames (ORFs) oriented in the same direction as the proximal dnaA and dnaN genes.

Detection of mutations in the gyrA of clinical Salmonella spp.

2010
The high prevalence of resistance to nalidixic acid and reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin of Salmonella spp. obtained from stool samples of neonates presenting with acute diarrhea in 2001 at the King Edward VIII hospital in Durban, South Africa, prompted this study to determine if there were any mutations in the QRDR of these isolates and to ...

gyrA polymorphism in Campylobacter jejuni: detection of gyrA mutations in 162 C. jejuni isolates by single-strand conformation polymorphism and DNA sequencing.

Antimicrobial agents and chemotherapy, 2003
Mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining region of the gyrA gene from 138 ciprofloxacin-resistant (MIC, > or =4 microg/ml) and 24 ciprofloxacin-susceptible (MIC, < or =1 microg/ml) clinical Campylobacter jejuni isolates were subjected to single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis and sequencing.
