Retrospective Identification of Lactococcus petauri Among Archived Isolates From Farmed Fish in Japan: Pathogenicity and Molecular Epidemiology

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lactococcosis, caused by Lactococcus garvieae, L. formosensis, and L. petauri, is an important bacterial disease of farmed fish worldwide. In Japan, L. petauri has not previously been reported as a cause of lactococcosis, although lactococcosis cases not attributable to either L. garvieae or L. formosensis have been recorded.

Rapid, DNA-induced interface swapping by DNA gyrase

open access: yeseLife
DNA gyrase, a ubiquitous bacterial enzyme, is a type IIA topoisomerase formed by heterotetramerisation of 2 GyrA subunits and 2 GyrB subunits, to form the active complex.

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...

Patterns of Drug Resistance, Drug Resistance Conferring Mutations and Genomic DNA Methylation Revealed in Mycobacterium tuberculosis From South Africa

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tuberculosis remains a major public health threat globally, with drug‐resistant strains undermining treatment efficacy. We analyzed 126 Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) isolates with diverse drug resistance spectra and selected 35 for whole genome sequencing (WGS) using Illumina NextSeq, SMRT PacBio Onso and SMRT PacBio Revio ...

Combating Campylobacter Resistance in Moroccan Poultry Using Essential Oil–Ciprofloxacin Combination

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
With an estimated prevalence of 15.52% in Moroccan poultry, Campylobacter species pose a significant food safety concern. We investigated whether essential oils (EOs) could restore the efficacy of ciprofloxacin against multidrug‐resistant (MDR) strains.

Outbreaks of Granulomatous Disease Associated With Vibrio harveyi Infection in Grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × E. lanceolatus) Aquaculture in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Between 2015 and 2024, outbreaks of muscular and visceral granulomatous disease, resulting in moderate‐to‐severe mortality in farmed groupers, occurred in southern Taiwan. Initially, affected groupers were screened for granuloma‐associated pathogens, including Mycobacterium spp., Nocardia spp., Photobacterium damselae and Edwardsiella spp ...

Probiotic‐Derived Vesicles Rectally Delivered via Thermo‐Gelling Copolymer Promote Mucosal Healing and Reduce Inflammation in Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 56, 9 October 2026.
A thermo‐responsive rectal delivery platform integrating probiotic‐derived extracellular vesicles within a hyaluronic acid‐based copolymer enables localized and sustained therapy for ulcerative colitis. The formulation effectively suppresses inflammation, promotes macrophage polarization toward a regenerative phenotype, restores epithelial barrier ...

Comprehensive review of DNA gyrase as enzymatic target for drug discovery and development

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medicinal Chemistry Reports
DNA gyrase is a member of the DNA topoisomerase protein family that catalyzes the conversion of different topological forms of DNA into one another. It is the sole enzyme that causes DNA to negatively supercoil. The enzyme is tetrameric with two GyrA (“A'

Aspergillus niger as a New Endophytic Fungus From Deverra tortuosa: Phytochemical Profile, Molecular Docking, Antimicrobial, Antibiofilm, Antioxidant, and Anticancer Activities

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Aspergillus niger AA1 isolated from Deverra tortuosa produced a metabolite‐rich extract with antibacterial, antibiofilm, antioxidant, and selective anticancer activities. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry identified major bioactive compounds, while molecular docking supported their interactions with DNA gyrase B and estrogen receptor alpha ...
