Radioimmunotherapy of Blastomycosis in a Mouse Model With a (1→3)-β-Glucans Targeting Antibody

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Invasive fungal infections (IFI) cause devastating morbidity and mortality, with the number of IFIs more than tripling since 1979. Our laboratories were the first to demonstrate that radiolabeled microorganism-specific monoclonal antibodies are highly ...

In Vitro Screen of Lactobacilli Strains for Gastrointestinal and Vaginal Benefits

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Traditional probiotics comprise mainly lactic acid bacteria that are safe for human use, tolerate acid and bile, and adhere to the epithelial lining and mucosal surfaces. In this study, one hundred commercial and non-commercial strains that were isolated

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Characterization, cloning and immunogenicity of antigens released by transforming cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A schistosome infection is initiated when the parasite penetrates the skin of a susceptible host. Relatively large quantities of protein are released by transforming cercariae compared to later larval stages.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Novel Monoclonal Antibodies 1D2 and 4E4 Against Aspergillus Glycoprotein Antigens Detect Early Invasive Aspergillosis in Mice

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Due to the high morbidity and mortality rates of invasive aspergillosis (IA) and the importance of early IA detection for successful treatment and subsequent outcome, this study aimed to determine a time course of detectable antigen in a mouse model of ...

Desensitization of delayed-type hypersensitivity in mice: suppressive environment

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1993
The systemic injection of high doses of antigen into a preimmunized animal results in transient unresponsiveness of cell-mediated immune responses. This phenomenon is known as desensitization.

Investigations of hemadsorption characteristics of glycoprotein HN and F antigen of parainfluenza 3 virus outer membrane in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinarski Glasnik, 2006
The objective of our investigations was to examine the hemadsorption characteristics of glycoprotein HN and F antigens of the outer membrane of the parainfluenza 3 virus.
