Hepatitis B virus vaccination of silvery gibbons (Hylobates moloch) at the Perth Zoo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Hepatitis B virus (HEV) has been identified in a number of nonhuman primate species, including the Silvery gibbon (Hylobates moloch). The Perth Zoo has a successful Silvery gibbon breeding program and has developed an HBV vaccination regime to protect ...

Molecular Pathogenesis of Hepatitis-B-virus-associated Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesGut and Liver, 2007
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent and malignant diseases worldwide. Epidemiological studies have clearly demonstrated that chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major etiological factor in the development of HCC.

Hepatitis B Virus X Gene Differentially Modulates Subgenotype F1b and F4 Replication

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is classified into ten genotypes and numerous subgenotypes (sgt). In particular, sgt F1b and sgt F4, native of Latin America, have been associated with differences in clinical and virological characteristics.

Lyssavirus Nucleoprotein Induces GPAT4‐Mediated CYB5R1 Depalmitoylation to Suppress Ferroptosis and Promote Viral Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid metabolism plays a vital role in viral infections. Here, we reveal that the lyssavirus N protein regulates GPAT4 to induce lipid droplet biogenesis, restricting CYB5R1 palmitoylation and reducing ferroptosis susceptibility to ultimately promote viral replication.

The prevalence of occult hepatitis B virus (hbv) infection in a large multi-ethnic haemodialysis cohort. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Haemodialysis patients are at increased risk of exposure to blood borne viruses. To reduce transmission in the UK, all haemodialysis patients are regularly screened, and if susceptible to Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection ...

Helicobacter pylori‐Induced Persistent IGF2BP1 Activation Promotes Ferroptosis Resistance in Gastric Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Helicobacter pylori infection induces sustained upregulation of the RNA‐binding protein IGF2BP1 in gastric epithelial cells, establishing a persistent epitranscriptomic program. IGF2BP1 stabilizes SLC7A11 mRNA in an m6A‐dependent manner to suppress ferroptosis and promote epithelial survival under oxidative stress. Pharmacological inhibition of IGF2BP1

Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in chronic hepatitis C virus infection: correlates of positivity and clinical relevance.

open access: yes, 2004
We examined correlates of antinuclear antibody (ANA) positivity (ANA+) in individuals with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the effect of positivity on clinical outcome of HCV. Pretreatment sera from 645 patients from three centres in Sweden

Hepatitis C : host-virus interactions and their impact on treatment response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Hepatitis C is a major cause of chronic liver disease with over 120 million infected people worldwide. Untreated chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection leads in 20-50% to liver cirrhosis culminating in cirrhosis-related complications and hepatocellular ...

The viral transactivator HBx protein exhibits a high potential for regulation via phosphorylation through an evolutionarily conserved mechanism

open access: yesInfectious Agents and Cancer, 2012
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) encodes an oncogenic factor, HBx, which is a multifunctional protein that can induce dysfunctional regulation of signaling pathways, transcription, and cell cycle progression, among other processes, through interactions
