High Rates of Advanced Chronic Liver Disease in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis D Virus Infection in Uzbekistan

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is endemic in Uzbekistan. Previous data showed a high prevalence of anti‐hepatitis D virus (HDV) antibodies in HBsAg‐positive individuals. Limited data are available on disease severity, treatment availability and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prevalence in patients with chronic ...

A Modified Cas9 Scaffold Allows Extension of the Virus‐Induced Gene Editing Technology to the Large Potyvirus Genus

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 8, Page 4933-4947, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Plant viruses are recognized as rapid and effective vectors to deliver CRISPR‐Cas reaction components into plants, a strategy termed virus‐induced gene editing (VIGE). However, VIGE is limited by the host range of the viral vectors. Development of new viral vectors to target a broad range of plant species will potentially enable the delivery ...

Design and Synthesis of Novel Imidazo[4,5‐c]pyridine Derivatives, Evaluation of Their Activity Against Hepatitis C Virus and In Silico Prediction of Their Binding Mode to NS4B Protein

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 13, 14 July 2026.
A series of 18 novel imidazo[4,5‐c]pyridines was synthesized, and their anti‐HCV activity was evaluated. Compound 30b was identified as the most promising one, with EC50 = 6.61 µM. Molecular docking studies indicated the NS4B protein of the HCV as a potential target of these derivatives.

Evolutionary trends in the prevalence of anti-HDV antibodies among patients positive for HBsAg referred to a national laboratory in Cameroon from 2012 to 2017

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2019
Objective The aim of this study was to update the data on the prevalence of anti-HDV antibodies in Cameroon. Results Antibodies against hepatitis Delta virus (Anti-HDV) were found in 16.48% (95% CI 11.46–18.77%) of 426 hepatitis B virus surface antigen ...

Epidemiology of Viral Hepatitis in the Indigenous Populations of the Arctic Zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The indigenous populations of the Arctic regions of Russia experience the lowest coverage of health-related services. We assessed the prevalence of hepatitis A, B, C, D and E viruses (HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV and HEV) among 367 healthy adult Native people of ...

Hepatitis Delta Virus: Genetics and Pathogenesis

open access: yesClinics in Laboratory Medicine, 1996
After the discovery of HDV there have been significant advances in the understanding of the biology and disease of HDV infection. Analyses at the molecular level have revealed several fascinating features (ribozyme activity, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity of RNA polymerase II, HDAg isoprenylation, and RNA editing) that are of significant ...

The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Hepatitis Delta Virus in HIV/HBV Co-Infected Patients in Shiraz, Iran, 2012

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2015
Evidence has shown that liver disease caused by hepatitis viruses can be more aggressive and severe in HIV infected subjects. Therefore, the present cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of HDV infection among HIV/HBV co-infected ...
