The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

A protein isolation method for western blot to study histones with an internal control protein

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biotechnology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2018
Histone modification is one of the attractive targets for epigenetic studies. However, current methods to extract chromatin-associated proteins for western blot of histone modification have some weaknesses such as the loss of housekeeping proteins.

Mechanistic stochastic model of histone modification pattern formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: The activity of a single gene is influenced by the composition of the chromatin in which it is embedded. Nucleosome turnover, conformational dynamics, and covalent histone modifications each induce changes in the structure of chromatin and ...

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Genome-wide Profiling of Histone Lysine Butyrylation Reveals its Role in the Positive Regulation of Gene Transcription in Rice

open access: yesRice, 2019
Background Histone modifications play important roles in growth and development of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Lysine butyrylation (Kbu) with a four-carbon chain is a newly-discovered histone acylation modification in rice.

Targeting histone deacetylase suppresses tumor growth through eliciting METTL14‐modified m6A RNA methylation in ocular melanoma

open access: yesCancer Communications, 2023
Background Diversified histone deacetylation inhibitors (HDACis) have demonstrated encouraging outcomes in multiple malignancies. N6‐methyladenine (m6A) is the most prevalent messenger RNA modification that plays an essential role in the regulation of ...

Transcription factor LSF facilitiates lysine methylation of α-tubulin by microtubule-associated SET8 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Microtubules are critical for mitosis, cell motility, and protein and organelle transport, and are a validated target for anticancer drugs. However, tubulin regulation and recruitment in these cellular processes is less understood.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A barcode screen for epigenetic regulators reveals a role for the NuB4/HAT-B histone acetyltransferase complex in histone turnover. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2011
Dynamic modification of histone proteins plays a key role in regulating gene expression. However, histones themselves can also be dynamic, which potentially affects the stability of histone modifications.

The physics of epigenetics

open access: yes, 2016
In higher organisms, all cells share the same genome, but every cell expresses only a limited and specific set of genes that defines the cell type. During cell division, not only the genome, but also the cell type is inherited by the daughter cells. This
