HIV persistence in the setting of antiretroviral therapy: when, where and how does HIV hide?
Advances in the treatment of HIV infection have dramatically reduced the death rate from AIDS and improved the quality of life of many HIV-infected individuals. However, the possible long-term toxicity associated with antiretroviral therapy (ART), stigma

ABSTRACT Neisseria gonorrhoeae poses an urgent public health challenge due to rapidly increasing antimicrobial resistance and the absence of an effective vaccine. Targeting conserved bacterial pathways involved in essential physiological processes may provide new opportunities for vaccine antigen discovery.

Update on HIV reservoirs [PDF]
The stable latent reservoir for HIV-1 in resting memory CD4+ T cells is a major barrier to curing HIV-1/AIDS. Studies on HIV-1 latency focused on regulation and reactivation of viral gene expression in the cells in which viral latent infection is already established. However, it is not well understood how virus becomes latent.

Latency reversal and subsequent elimination of the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) reservoir using a combination of compounds with different mechanisms of action are considered a promising tool for HIV-1 cure.

Background and Purpose Although opioids are central to end of life (EoL) care, tissue‐level opioid exposure remains poorly understood. The objective of this study was to characterize the relationship between prescription‐derived morphine equivalent daily dose (MEDD) and measured morphine concentrations across multiple organs.

Challenges and strategies for the eradication of the HIV reservoir [PDF]
Despite the success of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for inhibiting HIV replication and improving clinical outcomes, it fails to cure infection due to the existence of a stable latent proviral reservoir in memory CD4+ T cells. Because of the longevity of these cells harboring transcriptionally silent proviruses, devising strategies to ...

Prevention of SIVmac251 reservoir seeding in rhesus monkeys by early antiretroviral therapy
The latent HIV-1 reservoir is the key obstacle for curing HIV-1 infection, but the timepoint at which the HIV-1 reservoir is established is currently unclear. Here, Whitney et al.

A cure for HIV-1 (HIV) remains unrealized due to a reservoir of latently infected cells that persist during antiretroviral therapy (ART), with reservoir size associated with adverse health outcomes and inversely with time to viral rebound upon ART ...

Fungal Antimicrobial Resistance: Mechanisms, Drivers, and Global Clinical Burden
ABSTRACT Fungal antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern for world health caused by an increase in multidrug‐resistant infections, an increase in environmental reservoirs, and the ineffectiveness of current antifungal treatments. Fungal infections continue to be largely excluded from AMR initiatives while causing over 1.6 million deaths ...

Implantable drug delivery system: Frontiers of medicine‐engineering interdisciplinary
This review systematically summarizes the driving mechanisms of implantable on‐demand drug delivery systems (IDDS), including endogenous, exogenous, and closed‐loop strategies. It highlights the pivotal roles of flexible electronics and miniaturization in enhancing the tissue conformity and spatial adaptability.
