Structural studies of the engrailed homeodomain [PDF]
AbstractThe structure of the Drosophila engrailed homeodomain has been solved by molecular replacement and refined to an R‐factor of 19.7% at a resolution of 2.1 Å. This structure offers a high‐resolution view of an important family of DNA‐binding proteins and allows comparison to the structure of the same protein bound to DNA.

The correct wiring of neuronal circuits is one of the most complex processes in development, since axons form highly specific connections out of a vast number of possibilities. Circuit structure is genetically determined in vertebrates and invertebrates,

HMX3 is a homeodomain protein with essential roles in CNS and ear development. Homeodomains are DNA-binding domains and hence homeodomain-containing proteins are usually assumed to be transcription factors.

Homeodomain Proteins: Cooperating to be different [PDF]
The product of the Drosophila extradenticle gene interacts cooperatively with homeodomain proteins encoded by homeotic selector genes, and may account in part for their distinct regulatory properties.

Homeodomain proteins hierarchically specify neuronal diversity and synaptic connectivity
How our brain generates diverse neuron types that assemble into precise neural circuits remains unclear. Using Drosophila lamina neuron types (L1-L5), we show that the primary homeodomain transcription factor (HDTF) brain-specific homeobox (Bsh) is ...

Homeodomain proteins play key roles in development and gene regulation in eukaryotes. Past structural studies have focused on the binding of monomeric homeodomains to DNA, but two recent structures have revealed how homeodomains bind DNA as multimers.

The initiation of sexual development in the important edible and medicinal mushroom Flammulina velutipes is controlled by special genes at two different, independent, mating type (MAT) loci: HD and PR. We expanded our understanding of the F.

A class I odorant receptor enhancer shares a functional motif with class II enhancers
In the mouse, 129 functional class I odorant receptor (OR) genes reside in a ~ 3 megabase huge gene cluster on chromosome 7. The J element, a long-range cis-regulatory element governs the singular expression of class I OR genes by exerting its effect ...
