Mechanically Stable and Tunable Photoactivated Peptide‐Based Hydrogels for Soft Tissue Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A collagen‐like peptide hydrogel platform is developed using supramolecular self‐assembly and light‐triggered crosslinking. It creates mechanically stable, tunable hydrogels with cytocompatibility and biodegradability, making them potential soft tissue adhesives.

DNA barcoding and blood meal profiling of Ethiopian mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae): insights into species identification and host preferences

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Arboviruses continue to threaten global health because of their rapid geographical expansion and significant disease burden. Of the over 500 recognized arboviruses, approximately 150 affect humans, and around 50 affect domestic animals and ...

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Design, synthesis and evaluation of antifungal activity of 8-hydroxyquinolin-5-ylidene thiosemicarbazone derivatives

open access: yesCurrent Research in Microbial Sciences
Over the past decades, the incidence and modality of invasive fungal infections have been significantly underestimated. And the limited availability of clinically effective antifungals further underscores the need for novel therapeutic agents.

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.

Host Immune Response to Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV): Insights and Strategies for Effective Vaccine Design

open access: yesVaccines
Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is caused by bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), a member of the genus Pestivirus and in the family Flaviviridae. According to some studies, the disease incurs USD 1.5–2.5 billion per year and USD 0.50 to USD 687.80 per cow ...

LL‐37 Driven Phase Transition and Stacking in Oligolamellar Gram‐Negative Bacterial Membrane Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes oligolamellar bacterial membrane models to investigate how LL‐37 disrupts the complex dual‐bilayer architecture of Gram‐negative bacteria. Combining SAXS, cryo‐TEM, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and coarse‐grained simulations, it reveals cardiolipin‐driven phase transitions leading to bicelle‐like structures and membrane ...

Bioactive Conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce Hydrogel Facilitates Spinal Cord Injury Repair Through ROS Scavenging and Mitochondrial Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioactive conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce hydrogels with with scavenging ROS and alleviating neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction are exploited for SCI treatment. This functionality is attributed to interfacial activation modification of Ti3C2Tx with Ce3+ ions to in‐situ form Ce(OH)x‐mediated protective layer, which is beneficial to enabling stable intracellular ...

Epidemiology of BVD and persistently infected cattle across urban and peri-urban dairy farms in central, northern, and southern parts of Ethiopia

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is an economically significant disease affecting both domestic and wild ruminant species. The causative agent is bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) of the genus Pestivirus within the family Flaviviridae. In Ethiopia,

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...
