HSV-1 infection induces protein complex formation and the association with viral gene promoters.

open access: yes, 2016
HeLa cells were infected with HSV-1 at 10 MOI for times as indicated. The samples were then processed for detection of protein association by immunoprecipitation assay, for protein co-localization by immunostaining, for protein-DNA interactions by a ...

The order of infection shapes disease outcomes in influenza and herpes simplex virus coinfection by modulating immune responses

open access: yesVirology Journal
Background Coinfections of influenza A virus (IAV) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) have been increasingly reported in patients with severe pneumonia, yet their pathogenesis remains poorly understood.

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.
