Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Attitudes and perceptions of middle school students toward competitive activities in physical education

open access: yes, 2011
The attitudes and perceptions of middle school students toward competitive activities in physical education were examined. Ten boys and 14 girls volunteered (11-high-skilled, 11 moderate-skilled, and 2 low skilled students) in 6th and 7th grade from a ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Recognition of Human Motion Related Activities from Sensors

open access: yes, 2010
This work presents the design and evaluation of an activity recognition system for seven important motion related activities. The only sensor used is an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) worn on the belt.

Post-Activation Potentiation Enhancement of Countermovement Jump Performance using Velocity-based Conditioning Protocols with High-loads in Active Men and Women

open access: yesMotricidade
Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) refers to the temporary improvement in physical abilities resulting from a previous conditioning activity (CA), and velocity-based resistance training has been proposed to optimise PAPE.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A Plasminogen Activator in Spontaneously Active Human Blood.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1953
Summary1. Fibrinolytically active blood, as obtained from the living and dead human organism, contains a plasminogen activator. The amount of this activator exceeds many times that needed for the complete activation of the plasminogen present in human blood. 2.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Dynamics of sulfate and nitrate in a temperate stream network: combining multi-isotope analysis and generalized linear mixed-effects models for precautionary conservation

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science
Environmental pollution in stream networks is a major concern. In this study, the effects of land-use and geological characteristics on basin-scale sulfate and nitrate dynamics in the Chikusa River basin, Hyogo, Japan, where substantial environmental ...
