Loss of Pathogenicity and Evidence of Horizontal Gene Transfer in Colletotrichum gloeosporioides From a Medicinal Plant. [PDF]
A Colletotrichum gloeosporioides strain from Huperzia serrata lacks key pathogenicity genes CgDN3 and cap20 and has fewer pelB, pnl and pg genes. pksIII, for synthesis of huperzine A, was probably acquired by the host plant from the fungus. ABSTRACT Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is a major agricultural pathogen of crops that has also been identified ...

Pest categorisation of Pestalotiopsis microspora
Abstract Following an EFSA commodity risk assessment of bonsai plants (Pinus parviflora grafted on Pinus thunbergii) imported from China, the EFSA Plant Health Panel performed a pest categorisation of Pestalotiopsis microspora, a clearly defined plant pathogenic fungus of the family Pestalotiopsidaceae.

Non‐seed plants are emerging gene sources for agriculture and insect control proteins
SUMMARY The non‐seed plants (e.g., charophyte algae, bryophytes, and ferns) have multiple human uses, but their contributions to agriculture and research have lagged behind seed plants. While sharing broadly conserved biology with seed plants and the major crops, non‐seed plants sometimes possess alternative molecular and physiological adaptations ...

Our results show that biogeochemical niche conservatism relates to plant species diversification and life form evolution in subtropical forest plants. Furthermore, the strengths of biogeochemical niche conservatism varying among elements and between life forms might be mostly determined by the tempo and mode of OU processes.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative brain disorder that causes cellular response alterations, such as impaired cholinergic mechanism, amyloid‐beta (Aβ) AD aggregation, neuroinflammation, and several other pathways. AD is still the most prevalent form of dementia and affects many individuals across the globe.

The Neuroprotective Potential of Endophytic Fungi and Proposed Molecular Mechanism: A Current Update
Millions of people are affected by neuronal disorders that are emerging as a principal cause of death after cancer. Alzheimer’s disease, ataxia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy, and autism comprise the most common ones, being accompanied by loss of cognitive power, impaired balance, and movement.

Diversity of Endophytic Fungi in Huperzia serrata and Their Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitory Activity [PDF]
Huperzia serrata is a Huperzine A (HupA)-producing herb. HupA is a potent, reversible, highly specific, centrally active and selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, and is commonly used to improve Alzheimer’s disease. At present, H. serrata resources have been overexploited and their artificial cultivation has lagged behind the need, so the market ...
