Seedling resistance and chemical defenses against Psylliodes chrysocephala: the roles of seed age and sinapinic acid in Sinapis alba and Brassica napus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is a major pest of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus). We tested B. napus and Sinapis alba seedlings for feeding resistance and underlying chemical defenses. S. alba was least damaged, while metabolite profiles revealed resistance‐linked compounds, highlighting breeding potential for insect ...

How does leaf age affect performance? A comparative study of essential oils from young and mature Eucalyptus globulus leaves in crop protection

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Leaf age influences metabolomic profiling but not bioactivity of Eucalyptus globulus essential oils. Leaf age affects volatile levels of young and adult E. globulus oils, but not their bioactivity. Young leaf essential oil had higher contents of α‐ and β‐pinene. AEEO had higher levels of 1,8‐cineole and trans‐pinocarveol.

Using MALDI‐FTICR Mass Spectrometry to Enhance ZooMS Identifications of Pleistocene Bone Fragments Showing Variable Collagen Preservation

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Recent advances in high‐throughput molecular analyses of collagen peptides, especially ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry), have permitted breakthroughs in the analysis of archaeological material that is highly fragmented, a factor that hinders morphological identification.

Cross‐Linking Mass Spectrometry of the Antimicrobial Peptides Magainin 2 and PGLa Reveals Heterodimerization in Micellar Medium

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale In this study, we applied cross‐linking mass spectrometry (XL‐MS) to characterize the oligomeric states of a PGLa/magainin 2 mixture and gain insight into the heterodimerization previously suggested in the literature. Both peptides have shown a synergistic enhancement of activity when tested in antimicrobial assays; however, the ...

Natural Hydroxybenzoic and Hydroxycinnamic Acids Derivatives: Mechanisms of Action and Therapeutic Applications

open access: yesAntioxidants
Hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives are a class of organic compounds derived from benzoic and cinnamic acid, respectively, two types of acids in which one of the hydrogen atoms on the benzene ring is replaced by a hydroxyl (-OH) or ...

Utilização de extrato de própolis verde no resfriamento de sêmen equino [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Seminal cooling aims to prolong spermatic lifespan and fertilizing capacity due to reduction in energy metabolism of spermatozoa, providing enough period for transportation from the stallion to the mare.
