Androgens impair β-cell function in a mouse model of polycystic ovary syndrome by activating endoplasmic reticulum stress

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2021
Background: Androgens excess results in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which is an important cause of β cells dysfunction. Here, we investigated the molecular regulation of androgens excess, ER stress, and β-cell function in polycystic ovary syndrome

Metformin Can Attenuate Beta-Cell Hypersecretion—Implications for Treatment of Children with Obesity

open access: yesMetabolites, 2023
In children with obesity, insulin hypersecretion is proposed to precede insulin resistance. We investigated if metformin could be used to attenuate insulin secretion from palmitate-treated isolated islets and its implication for children with obesity ...

Metabolic syndrome, hyperinsulinemia, and cancer [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2007
The term metabolic syndrome describes the association between obesity, insulin resistance, and the risk of several prominent chronic diseases, including cancer. The causal link between many of these components remains unexplained, however. What is clear are the events that precede the development of the syndrome itself.

Nutraceutical Evaluation of Biscuits Formulated From Acha, Chia, and Soycake Flours on Glycemic Control, Lipid Profile, and Histopathological Effects in High‐Fat Diet/Streptozotocin‐Induced Type 2 Diabetic Rats

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Acha–chia–soycake biscuits improved glucose tolerance, lipid profile, insulin levels, and pancreatic integrity in HFD–STZ diabetic rats. ACSB1 and ACSB13 outperformed acarbose, showing potent antihyperglycemic, hypolipidemic, and pancreatic‐protective effects.
