Megestrol Acetate-Induced Symptomatic Hypogonadism in a Male Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, 2018
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis are very sensitive and can be affected by external factors like stress, starvation, and medication.

Syncing Health Timing: Exploring the Interplay of Circadian Rhythms, Obesity, and Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythm disruption impairs metabolic regulation, appetite control, and vascular function, promoting obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Evidence highlights a bidirectional relationship where metabolic disorders further disturb circadian timing.

Early postnatal hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity and reduced insulin sensitivity in adult rats

open access: yesEndocrine Regulations, 2019
Objective. Early life stress influences the development of metabolic disorders, including functional changes in the developing of pancreas mediated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.

Sexual dimorphism in hormone–gut microbiome associations across reproductive states in wild giant pandas

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Gut microbiota–host endocrine interactions in wild mammals remain poorly understood. Giant pandas experience seasonal dietary shifts and constrained annual reproduction, offering an ideal model to investigate microbiome–endocrine coupling. We integrated fecal hormone profiling, microsatellite‐based individual identification, and gut microbiome ...

Complement C3 mediates adolescent social isolation‐induced hippocampal synaptic deficits and sex‐specific emotional dysfunction

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Adolescent social isolation disrupts hippocampal function and exacerbates emotional symptoms, with sex‐specific patterns, as shown by human studies. In mice, social isolation decreased hippocampal synaptic density and calcium signaling, upregulated complement proteins, and activated complement‐mediated microglial synaptic phagocytosis.

Stress reactivity in heroin dependence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Heroin dependence is a chronic relapsing disorder characterized by a compulsion to seek and use heroin despite the negative consequences. In addition to the diagnostic criteria, heroin dependence is associated with an altered function of the ...

Hydrogel‐based drug delivery systems for intracerebral hemorrhage with therapeutic advances and emerging roles of the bone–brain axis

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based drug delivery systems offer a promising approach for treating intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) by overcoming blood‐brain barrier limitations, enabling precise, sustained release of neuroprotective and anti‐inflammatory agents. These systems enhance treatment efficacy, but challenges remain in biosafety, drug penetration, and scalability ...

Nanoplastics: Methods, Exposure and Effects on Domestic, Farm and Wild Animals

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nanoplastics (NPs) are synthetic polymer particles ranging in size from 1 nm to 1 μm that have been identified as a major concern for ecosystems and organisms due to their plethora of negative effects. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the knowledge relating to exposure and effects of NPs in domestic (i.e., farm ...
