The role of hypoxia-inducible factors in tumorigenesis [PDF]

open access: yesCell Death & Differentiation, 2008
Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are essential mediators of the cellular oxygen-signaling pathway. They are heterodimeric transcription factors consisting of an oxygen-sensitive alpha subunit (HIF-alpha) and a constitutive beta subunit (HIF-beta) that facilitate both oxygen delivery and adaptation to oxygen deprivation by regulating the expression of ...

SIRT3 inhibition suppresses hypoxia‐inducible factor 1α signaling and alleviates hypoxia‐induced apoptosis of type B spermatogonia GC‐2 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2023
Hypoxia has been reported to be an important factor leading to male infertility, and it has been reported that hypoxia can induce the apoptosis of mouse spermatogenic cells.

Brief inhalation of sevoflurane can reduce glial scar formation after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in neonatal rats

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2021
Previous studies have demonstrated that sevoflurane postconditioning can provide neuroprotection after hypoxic-ischemic injury and improve learning and memory function in developing rodent brains.

Peculiarities of expression of HIF-1Α and HIF-3Α in hypothalamus of Wistar rats under the influence of intermittent hypobaric hypoxia

open access: yesPatologìâ, 2017
The purpose of this study was to establish the features of the expression of hif‑1α and hif-3α genes and the accumulation of HIF-1α and HIF-3α proteins in the paraventricular (PVH) and supraoptic (SO) nuclei of the hypothalamus under the conditions of ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A long-term "memory" of HIF induction in response to chronic mild decreased oxygen after oxygen normalization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is functionally characterized by decreased vasorelaxation, increased thrombosis, increased inflammation, and altered angiogenic potential, has been intimately associated with the progression and severity of ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Hypoxia helps glioma to fight therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Despite major improvements in the surgical management the prognosis for patients bearing malignant gliomas is still dismal. Malignant gliomas are notoriously resistant to treatment and the survival time of patients is between 3-8 years for low-grade and

Distinct deregulation of the hypoxia inducible factor by PHD2 mutants identified in germline DNA of patients with polycythemia

open access: yesHaematologica, 2012
Background Congenital secondary erythrocytoses are due to deregulation of hypoxia inducible factor resulting in overproduction of erythropoietin. The most common germline mutation identified in the hypoxia signaling pathway is the Arginine 200-Tryptophan

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
