Liraglutide Enhances Cell Viability and Reduces Oxidative Stress in Hyperglycemic H9c2 Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality in Diabetes mellitus (DM), where chronic hyperglycemia induces oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and hypoxia in cardiomyocytes.

The Expression Patterns of Hypoxia-Inducing Factor Subunit α-1, Heme Oxygenase, Hypoxia Upregulated Protein 1, and Cardiac Troponin T During Development of the Chicken Heart

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2007
Oxygen is one of the critical determinants of appropriate embryonic and fetal development, including cardiogenesis. When the demand of tissues for oxygen exceeds oxygen supply, hypoxic conditions develop. In the developing embryo, hypoxia is associated with increased fetal mortality, cerebrovascular anomalies, cardiovascular dysfunction, and altered ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Overexpression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha improves immunomodulation by dental mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2017
Background Human dental mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are considered as highly accessible and attractive MSCs for use in regenerative medicine, yet some of their features are not as well characterized as other MSCs.

An Enhanced Photothermal Therapeutic Iridium Hybrid Platform Reversing the Tumor Hypoxic Microenvironment

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
As hypoxia is closely associated with tumor progression, proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and strong resistance to therapy, regulating and overcoming the hypoxia tumor microenvironment are two increasingly important aspects of tumor treatment. Herein,

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

AIF1+CSF1R+ MSCs, induced by TNF‐α, act to generate an inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Mesenchymal stem cells subset, educated by TNF‐α, are involved to generate inflammatory microenvironment and promote hepatocarcinogenesis Abstract Background and Aims Increasing evidence suggests that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) home to injured local tissues and the tumor microenvironment in the liver.

Genetic studies of familial myeloproliferative disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hereditary thrombocythemia (HT) is an autosomal dominant disorder with clinical features resembling sporadic essential thrombocythemia. HT families share similar clinical symptoms caused by heterogeneous genetic alterations.

Molecular Characterization and Functional Analysis of Hypoxia-Responsive Factor Prolyl Hydroxylase Domain 2 in Mandarin Fish (Siniperca chuatsi)

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
With increased breeding density, the phenomenon of hypoxia gradually increases in aquaculture. Hypoxia is primarily mediated by the hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) signaling pathway. Prolyl hydroxylase domain proteins (PHD) are cellular oxygen-sensing

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.
