Kynurenine–PARP-1 Link Mediated by MicroRNA 210 May Be Dysregulated in Pulmonary Hypertension
Background: Dysregulation of microRNAs is associated with pulmonary hypertension. The present study aimed to determine the alterations in microRNA and microRNA expressions and their role in signaling pathways and investigate the relationship with serum ...

The role of hypoxia inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) in hypoxia induced apoptosis: Figure 1 [PDF]
Apoptosis can be induced in response to hypoxia. The severity of hypoxia determines whether cells become apoptotic or adapt to hypoxia and survive. A hypoxic environment devoid of nutrients prevents the cell undergoing energy dependent apoptosis and cells become necrotic. Apoptosis regulatory proteins are delicately balanced.

ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Hypoxia‐inducible factor 1 and cancer pathogenesis [PDF]
AbstractHypoxia‐inducible factor 1 (HIF‐1) is a transcriptional activator that mediates adaptive responses to hypoxia. HIF‐1 activity is increased in the majority of human cancers as a result of genetic alterations and intratumoral hypoxia. HIF‐1 activates the transcription of genes that increase O2 availability by stimulating angiogenesis or that ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Effect of low-frequency low-intensity ultrasound with microbubbles on prostate cancer hypoxia
Angiogenesis plays an important role in tumor growth, invasiveness, and metastasis. It is well established that prostate cancer is exposed to fluctuating oxygen tensions and both acute and chronic hypoxia exist, and these conditions can upregulate ...

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Activation of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1 in Bacillary Angiomatosis [PDF]
Background— Bartonella species are the only known bacterial pathogens causing vasculoproliferative disorders in humans (bacillary angiomatosis [BA]). Cellular and bacterial pathogenetic mechanisms underlying the induction of BA are largely unknown.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
