Biocatalytic phenol coupling of [gamma]-naphthopyrones and biosynthesis of ibotenic acid

open access: yes, 2019
The present work deals with the identification and investigation of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of fungal natural products. It is composed of two parts. Part I covers the biosynthesis of dimeric γ-naphthopyrone metabolites in ascomycetes.

The Improved Syntheses of dl-Ibotenic Acid and Muscimol

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1971
dl-Ibotenic acid (I) was synthesized in a better yield than the known methods, starting from diethyl 3-chloroglutaconate (VII). Reaction of VII with hydroxylamine in the presence of sodium hydroxide followed by esterification afforded ethyl 3-hydroxy-5-isoxazoleacetate (IV), which was, after benzenesulfonylation, brominated with NBS to ethyl α-bromo-3 ...

Crosstalk between the subiculum and sleep–wake regulation: A review

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 33, Issue 5, October 2024.
Summary The circuitry underlying the initiation, maintenance, and coordination of wakefulness, rapid eye movement sleep, and non‐rapid eye movement sleep is not thoroughly understood. Sleep is thought to arise due to decreased activity in the ascending reticular arousal system, which originates in the brainstem and awakens the thalamus and cortex ...

Simultaneous determination of γ-hydroxybutyric acid, ibotenic acid and psilocybin in saliva samples by capillary electrophoresis coupled with a contactless conductivity detector

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of the study was to develop a methodology for the determination of γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), ibotenic acid (IBO) and psilocybin (PY) abuse in human saliva.

RESPONSES TO dl‐IBOTENIC ACID AT LOCUST GLUTAMATERGIC NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTIONS [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1979
The responses of excitatory junctions on locust skeletal muscle fibres to iontophoretically applied l‐glutamic acid and dl‐ibotenic acid, a rigidly extended analogue of glutamate, were recorded by means of intracellular microelectrodes. Iontophoresis of l‐glutamate to junctional sites produced transient depolarizations.

Saccade and pupil changes in children recovering from opsoclonus‐myoclonus ataxia syndrome reveal midbrain alterations in oculomotor circuits

open access: yesAnnals of the Child Neurology Society, Volume 2, Issue 3, Page 212-224, September 2024.
Abstract Objective This study measured eye movements in children with a history of opsoclonus‐myoclonus ataxia syndrome in order to identify abnormalities in saccade and pupil behavior that map onto specific alterations in brainstem pathways. Methods We used video‐based eye tracking while participants freely viewed 10 min of short (2–4 s) video clips ...

Myelin modulates the process of isoflurane anesthesia through the regulation of neural activity

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2024.
Myelin in the distinct neural nucleus plays an essential role in regulating the progress of isoflurane anesthesia. The possible mechanism of myelin in the regulation of isoflurane anesthesia is the modification of neuronal activity by myelin integrity during GA.

Erythropoietin is neuroprotective against NMDA-receptor-mediated excitotoxic brain injury in newborn mice

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2006
Using an established mouse model of human periventricular leukomalacia, we investigated whether EPO could reduce excitotoxic damage. When administered 1 h following intracerebral injection of 10 μg ibotenic acid at day 5 of life, both a single injection ...
