Translating gut microbiome research into therapies for type 1 diabetes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is characterised by the loss of functional pancreatic β‐cells, for which lifelong insulin therapy remains the standard of care. Given that the gut microbiome can influence host health and that shifts in gut microbial profiles have been observed in T1D, growing interest has emerged in the role of the gut microbiome in T1D,

Tumor‐Regional Immune Microenvironment: A Critical Factor in the Design of Radiotherapy–Immunotherapy Combination Trials

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 8, Page 1857-1872, 15 October 2026.
ABSTRACT Clinical trials combining radiotherapy (RT) with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) have shown improved outcomes in only a fraction of patients, and optimal strategies for integrating these modalities remain under intense investigation. With a few exceptions, phase III combination trials have yielded disappointing results.

Microbiome‐Derived Tryptophan Metabolites Regulate AhR Signaling to Restore Epithelial Barrier Integrity in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
The graphical abstract illustrates how microbiome‐derived indoles activate the aryl hydrocarbon receptor to restore the intestinal barrier. The picture contrasts the “leaky gut” state with the restored homeostasis achieved through AMPK, Nrf2, and IL‐22 signaling.

Ineffectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors in prostate cancer: is it just a question of ‘‐mabs’?

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 270, Issue 2, Page 139-162, October 2026.
Abstract Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common type of neoplasm, currently treated with a variety of therapeutic agents. Although advances in treatment over the past decade have improved overall survival, patients with advanced PCa eventually progress from hormone‐sensitive PCa to metastatic castration‐resistant PCa.

Investigation of IDO1 and TDO2 expression in breast tumors by immunohistochemistry and real-time polymerase chain reaction methods

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment
Although diagnostic and therapeutic advances have been made in the treatment of breast cancer, the challenge of effectively controlling tumor progression persists.

The evolving role of immunotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 18, 15 September 2026.
Abstract Ovarian cancer remains a major cause of gynecologic cancer mortality; and, although immune checkpoint inhibitors have transformed treatment in other solid tumors, their activity in ovarian cancer has been limited by tumor heterogeneity, an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and the lack of robust predictive biomarkers.

IDO1 inhibits ferroptosis by regulating FTO-mediated m6A methylation and SLC7A11 mRNA stability during glioblastoma progression

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) has been recognized as an enzyme involved in tryptophan catabolism with immunosuppressive ability. This study determined to investigate the impact of IDO1 on glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cells.

Targeting a Myeloid–Regulatory B Cell Network Reverses Immune Paralysis in Periprosthetic Joint Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 51, 14 September 2026.
Periprosthetic joint infection establishes a sophisticated immunosuppressive network between CXCR4+ PMN‐MDSCs and Bregs, inducing profound CD8+ T cell paralysis. Alendronate effectively disrupts this CXCR4+ PMN‐MDSC–Breg axis by targeting STAT3, thereby restoring local immune surveillance.

Tryptophan deficiency induced by indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 1 results in glucose transporter 1‐dependent promotion of aerobic glycolysis in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMedComm
Indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 1 (IDO1), the key enzyme in the catabolism of the essential amino acid tryptophan (Trp) through kynurenine pathway, induces immune tolerance and is considered as a critical immune checkpoint, but its impacts as a metabolism ...
