Gender differences in the prevalence of impaired fasting glycaemia and impaired glucose tolerance in Mauritius. Does sex matter?

open access: yes, 2003
Objective: To examine gender differences in the characteristics and prevalence of various categories of glucose tolerance in a population study in Mauritius.Research design and methods: In 1998, a community-based cross-sectional survey was conducted in ...

Development and validation of two self-reported tools for insulin resistance and hypertension risk assessment in a European cohort : the Feel4Diabetes-study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Early identification of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension (HTN) risk may improve prevention and promote public health. Implementation of self-reported scores for risk assessment provides an alternative cost-effective tool.

Distinct β-Cell Defects in Impaired Fasting Glucose and Impaired Glucose Tolerance [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes, 2012
To characterize the defects in β-cell function in subjects with impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and compare the results to impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and normal glucose tolerance (NGT) subjects, β-cell glucose sensitivity and rate sensitivity during the oral glucose tolerance test were measured with the model ...

Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance in rural central India: A study of prediabetes in the first degree relatives of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a rural region of Malwa in Madhya Pradesh

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2017
Background: Prediabetes is a category of glucose tolerance representing an intermediate stage between normal glucose tolerance and diabetes and is characterized by impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).

Insulin-like growth factor-1 is a negative modulator of glucagon secretion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Glucagon secretion involves a combination of paracrine, autocrine, hormonal, and autonomic neural mechanisms. Type 2 diabetes often presents impaired glucagon suppression by insulin and glucose.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Demographic and metabolic characteristics of individuals with progressive glucose tolerance

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2009
We evaluated changes in glucose tolerance of 17 progressors and 62 non-progressors for 9 years to improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Changes in anthropometric measurements and responses to an oral glucose tolerance

Prospective relationships between body weight and physical activity: an observational analysis from the NAVIGATOR study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Objectives: While bidirectional relationships exist between body weight and physical activity, direction of causality remains uncertain and previous studies have been limited by self-reported activity or weight and small sample size.
