Integrating willow-based bioenergy and organic dairy production – the role of tree fodder for feed supplementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Silvopastoral systems that combine livestock and trees offer two main advantages for the animals. First, trees modify microclimatic conditions which can have beneficial effects on pasture growth and animal welfare.

Common Signatures of Altered Gene Regulation and Invasiveness of Different Breast Cancer Cell Lines after Matrix Interface Crossing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Interface transmigration reprograms triple‐negative breast cancer cells, triggering a shared switch toward more aggressive and invasive phenotypes. Using a collagen I interface model, this study identifies shared transcriptional changes involving proliferation, chromatin remodeling, and DNA repair pathways.

A note on the effect of the composition of barley produced at different locations on performance of growing pigs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
peer-reviewedLocation of production has been shown to affect the nutritive value of barley for growing pigs, but there is a lack of information regarding the effect of this factor on pig performance.

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Tuning the Testicular Microenvironment for Enhancing Human Sertoli Cells Maturation and Functionality In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An in vitro testicular model is developed by generating connective tissue equivalents from human dermal fibroblast‐derived microtissues and coupling them with human Sertoli cells or human Sertoli cell spheroids. This engineered microenvironment supports Sertoli cell maturation and functionality, providing a promising platform for studying human ...

Nutritional evaluation of partially defatted Hermetia illucens meal in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) diets under commercial-like conditions

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science
This study evaluated the potential of black soldier fly (BSF; Hermetia illucens) meal as a sustainable protein source in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss; initial average weight of 117.1 g) diets under commercial-like conditions (water temperature of ...

Digested casein phosphopeptides impact intestinal calcium transport in vitro

open access: yesFood & Function
A casein hydrolysate enriched in CPPs underwent in vitro digestion and was incubated with an IB model to monitor calcium uptake and transport. The dCPPs enhanced paracellular calcium transport. CPPs capable of crossing the IB were identified.

Packed for Ossification: High‐Density Bioprinting of hPDC Spheroids in HAMA Toward Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.

In vitro simulated study of macronutrient digestion in complex food using digestive enzyme supplement

open access: yesHeliyon
Digestive enzymes secreted by the body are vital for digestion and nutrient absorption. Enzyme supplements are commonly used to support them in achieving optimal digestion. Herein, the efficacy of digestive enzyme supplement (DigeSEB Super) in digestion of complex food was assessed using INFOGEST simulated static and modified semi-dynamic in vitro ...
