Analytic framework for peptidomics applied to large-scale neuropeptide identification

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Neuropeptide research is challenged by technical difficulties in identifying new bioactive peptides. Here the authors present an analytical pipeline for large-scale peptidomics applied to the rat hypothalamus, identifying thousands of endogenous ...

Glucagon Like Peptide 1 and Evidence Around Diabetes Specific Nutrition

open access: yesWorld Nutrition, 2019
There has been significant research and development in pharmaco-therapeutic molecules for management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Diabetes specific nutrition intervention & newer incretin-based therapies have gained a lot of attention.

Neuroprotective Effects and Treatment Potential of Incretin Mimetics in a Murine Model of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a commonly occurring injury in sports, victims of motor vehicle accidents, and falls. TBI has become a pressing public health concern with no specific therapeutic treatment.

Update on incretin hormones [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2011
The incretin hormones glucagon‐like‐peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) and glucose‐dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) are released from the intestine following oral ingestion of nutrients. Incretins promote insulin secretion, while GLP‐1 also inhibits glucagon release and gastric emptying, minimizing postprandial glucose excursions.

Inflammation and Incretins

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012
Nutrient excess results in systemic inflammation in diabetes contributing to insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia and increased cardiovascular risk. GLP-1 agonists and DPP-4 inhibitors, which are now well accepted therapies for diabetes may play a unique role in modulating this inflammatory process.

Role of fasting duration and weekday in incretin and glucose regulation

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2020
Fasting duration has been associated with lower fasting blood glucose levels, but higher 2-h post-load levels, and research has indicated an adverse effe ct of ‘weekend behavior’ on human metabolism.

AMPK is involved in the regulation of incretin receptors expression in pancreatic islets under a low glucose concentration. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The precise role of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a target of metformin, in pancreatic β cells remains controversial, even though metformin was recently shown to enhance the expression of incretin receptors (GLP-1 and GIP receptors) in pancreatic ...

Variation in responses to incretin therapy: Modifiable and non-modifiable factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2023
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity have reached epidemic proportions. Incretin therapy is the second line of treatment for T2D, improving both blood glucose regulation and weight loss.
