Escherichia coli Ec36 was recovered from a patient in Portugal after treatment with meropenem and colistin. Besides an IncF plasmid with Tn1441d-blaKPC-3, already reported in clinical strains in this country, E. coli Ec36 co-harbored an IncX4::mcr-1 gene.

Plasmidome in mcr-1 harboring carbapenem-resistant enterobacterales isolates from human in Thailand
The emergence of the mobile colistin-resistance genes mcr-1 has attracted significant attention worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the genetic features of mcr-1-carrying plasmid among carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) isolates and the ...

Is the Evolution of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Linked to Restriction-Modification Systems? [PDF]
Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica bacteria are highly diverse foodborne pathogens that are subdivided into more than 1,500 serovars. The diversity is believed to result from mutational evolution, as well as intra- and interspecies recombination that ...

Genome stability during serial sub-culturing in hyperepidemic multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. [PDF]
BACKGROUND Core-genome single-nucleotide variant (cgSNV) analysis represents a powerful tool for epidemiological investigations of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria.

Identification and characterization of mcr mediated colistin resistance in extraintestinal Escherichia coli from poultry and livestock in China [PDF]
Antimicrobial resistance to colistin has emerged worldwide threatening the efficacy of one of the last-resort antimicrobials used for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae infection in humans. In this study, we investigated the presence

Regulatory fine-tuning of mcr-1 increases bacterial fitness and stabilises antibiotic resistance in agricultural settings [PDF]
Antibiotic resistance tends to carry fitness costs, making it difficult to understand how resistance can be maintained in the absence of continual antibiotic exposure. Here we investigate this problem in the context of mcr-1, a globally disseminated gene
