Acceptability by Girolando heifers and nutritional value of erect prickly pear stored for different periods [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2017
: The objective of this work was to evaluate the nutritional value of erect prickly pear (EPP) (Opuntia stricta), stored for different periods, and its acceptability by Girolando heifers. Five heifers were distributed in a 5x5 Latin square.

Hevea brasiliensis seeds: A novel sustainable feedstock for ethanol production

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is cultivated on a large scale mainly for the extraction of latex in Brazil and Southeast Asia, also generating large quantities of seeds. These seeds currently do not have large‐scale applications and may thus be considered as a residue.

Gut Microbiota of Gray Snub‐Nosed Monkeys: Adaptation to Seasonal Variations Through Energy Compensation and Thermogenesis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Based on metagenome‐assembled genomes (MAGs), the gut microbiota of the gray snub‐nosed monkeys recovered 1229 non‐redundant MAGs. The gut microbiota showed an enhanced capacity to produce energy substrates with increased conversion activity of these substrates during winter.

Feeding Laboratory Mice: Comparing a Standard Versus a Purified Diet – Marked Effects on Digestive Physiology

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diet composition and processing have a major impact on its utilisation by the animal, as is known from farm and pet animal species. This includes effects on energy and nutrient digestibility, the intermediary metabolism, and the intestinal microbiome, with all the resulting impacts. For laboratory animals, data is scarce on influencing factors

Fermentative Characteristics, Nutritional Aspects, Aerobic Stability, and Microbial Populations of Total Mixed Ration Silages Based on Relocated Sorghum Silage and Cactus Pear for Sheep Diets

open access: yesAgronomy
Total mixed ration silage has been used as a strategy to optimize the use of dry and wet feed in ruminant feeding. Another promising technique is silage reallocation, which allows producers to divide the ensiled material in large silos into smaller units

Valorization of soybean meal to produce high-protein animal feed and value-added products using a new strain of Aureobasidium pullulans [PDF]

open access: yesHemijska Industrija
Soybean meal (SBM) is a by-product of soybean oil production. It is a high-quality protein supplement for animal feed. However, it is rich in anti-nutritive factors and indigestible components, among which the special attention is focused on galacto ...

Differences in Feeding Management of Pet Rabbits by Owners and Hobby Breeders and Their Impact on Animals' Health: A Survey

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the last decades, the population of pet rabbits in Europe has increased significantly, but to date studies into feeding management of these species have been mainly conducted in production animals. This study aimed to evaluate the feeding practices of both pet rabbit owners and hobby breeders in Germany and how these may affect animal ...
