Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) result from a reprogramming of somatic cells via transduction with viral vectors expressing the Oct4, Sox2, c-Myc, Klf4, Nanog, and Lin28 genes, which are essential for the establishment and maintenance of the pluripotent state. In properties, iPS are almost fully similar to embryonic stem cells (ESC).
