Functional importance for developmental regulation of sterol biosynthesis in Acanthamoeba castellanii

open access: yes, 2018
The sterol metabolome of Acanthamoeba castellanii (Ac) yielded 25 sterols. Substrate screening of cloned AcCYP51 revealed obtusifoliol as the natural substrate which converts to ∆8,14-sterol (

Establishment of Human Formative Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Like Cells Exhibiting Amniotic Differentiation Potentials

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
The hfPSC‐LCs could be established from naïve hESCs, conventional hESCs, hiPSCs, and human blastocysts. The hfPSC‐LCs hold robust capacity for three germ layers, hPGCLCs, and hALPCs. ABSTRACT Human embryos undergo pivotal morphogenetic remodelling shortly after implantation. The understanding of this crucial stage is severely impeded by the scarcity of

Fatty acid and sterol metabolism: potential antimicrobial targets in apicomplexan and trypanosomatid parasitic protozoa.

open access: yes, 2002
Current treatments for diseases caused by apicomplexan and trypanosomatid parasites are inadequate due to toxicity, the development of drug resistance and an inability to eliminate all life cycle stages of these parasites from the host.

Steroidogenic compensation and lipid deficiency with enhanced NAD+ salvage in small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.

The Oxidosqualene Cyclase from the Oomycete Saprolegnia Parasitica Synthesizes Lanosterol as a Single Product

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
The first committed step of sterol biosynthesis is the cyclisation of 2,3-oxidosqualene to form either lanosterol or cycloartenol. This is catalyzed by an oxidosqualene cyclase.

Discovery of an ergosterol-signaling factor that regulates Trypanosoma brucei growth[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2015
Ergosterol biosynthesis and homeostasis in the parasitic protozoan Trypanosoma brucei was analyzed by RNAi silencing and inhibition of sterol C24β-methyltransferase (TbSMT) and sterol 14α-demethylase [TbSDM (TbCYP51)] to explore the functions of sterols ...

Towards an integrated molecular understanding of plant hormones

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review offers a comprehensive overview of the nine plant hormones, delving into their biosynthesis, transport, signaling and crosstalk mechanisms. Because the complexity of plant hormonal control goes beyond these core elements, additional specific features are discussed. Lastly, this review highlights how fundamental insights drive hormonal‐based

Stereoselective Biotransformation: Transfer of Learning to Advance Drug Metabolism and Biocatalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 25, 15 June 2026.
Understanding stereoselective biotransformations has implications for predicting drug disposition and response and may also inspire novel biocatalytic and biomimetic strategies to address challenges in metabolite and API synthesis. ABSTRACT Chirality is an important determinant of drug action, as enantiomers can exhibit markedly different ...

[Microbial models in screening of inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis].

open access: yesAntibiotiki i khimioterapiia = Antibiotics and chemoterapy [sic], 2014
On the base of previously developed microbial models high effective scheme for screening of inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis (ISB) is proposed. It is based on cultivation of halophilic bacteria Halobacterium salinarum (former Halobacterium halobium), possessing mevalonate pathway of sterol biosynthesis, and cultivation of fungus Acremonium fusidioides
