Lamin B Receptor Regulates the Growth and Maturation of Myeloid Progenitors via its Sterol Reductase Domain: Implications for Cholesterol Biosynthesis in Regulating Myelopoiesis

open access: yes, 2012
Lamin B receptor (LBR) is a bifunctional nuclear membrane protein with N-terminal lamin B and chromatin-binding domains plus a C-terminal sterol Δ14 reductase domain.

Antifungal Potential of Cumin Spice Seeds, Cuminum cyminum, Against Aspergillus fumigatus: Mechanistic Insights Into Ergosterol, Melanin, and Biofilm Inhibition

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 4, July 2026.
Antifungal effects and underlying mechanism of the action of the supercritical fluid extracted from the cumin (Cuminum cyminum) seeds and its volatile phyto‐constituents against pathogenic Aspergillus fumigatus. ABSTRACT Spices are aromatic culinary ingredients used worldwide for enhancing food flavors, folklore therapy, and their antiseptic ...

RNA interference in crop protection: opportunities and challenges during the transition to commercialization

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 5971-5986, July 2026.
RNA interference (RNAi) technologies, host‐induced gene silencing (HIGS) and spray‐induced gene silencing (SIGS), potentially offer sustainable crop protection. However, efficacy, costs, regulatory clarity, and socio‐environmental impacts require further evaluation for broader use.

Co(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II) Coordination Complexes: Synthesis, Characterization, Experimental, and Computational Study on Potential Antiplasmodial Activity

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 12, 26 June 2026.
Four isostructural complexes (C1–C4) derived from 2‐(tert‐butoxy)‐6‐(1H‐imidazol‐1‐yl)pyridine with axial halides exhibit octahedral trans M(L)4X2 geometries, confirmed by X‐ray diffraction. They feature a discrete 1,6M7−1 topology, identified using ToposPro analysis.

[Microbial test-system for screening of inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis].

open access: yesAntibiotiki i khimioterapiia = Antibiotics and chemoterapy [sic], 2014
New effective economic microbial test-system for screening of microbial metabolites, that are inhibitors of sterol biosynthesis, is proposed. It is based on cultivation of fungal strain Acremonium fusidioides (former Fusidium coccineum), that produces fusidic acid (fusidin) that is antibiotic of steroid structure.

Chemical Metabolomics: Chemical Biology Tools for Advanced Metabolism Investigations

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 23, 1 June 2026.
The human metabolism has been investigated for several millennia. The metabolome is known for a high complexity due to a large number of different metabolites that are present at different concentrations. Metabolomics has been developed as a field to investigate the entire human metabolome and to elucidate disease development mechanisms.

The Neurospora crassa erg3 gene encodes a protein with sequence homology to both yeast sterol C-14 reductase and chicken lamin B receptor

open access: yes, 1994
The erg3 gene ofNeurospora crassa was sequenced (EMBL accession no. X77955) and found to encode a protein of 490 amino acid residues with significant homology to the yeast sterol biosynthetic enzyme C-14 reductase (39% identity) and also to the C ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1494-1512, June 2026.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Synthesis and testing of sterol biosynthesis inhibitors with Candida albicans

open access: yes, 2002
A series of lanosterol analogs which contain a heteroatom substituted for C-24 or C-25 or otherwise modified in the double bond character in the sterol side chain at C-24 (25) have been prepared and assayed with Candida albicans as antifungal agents. 25-

Azasterols as inhibitors of sterol 24-methyltransferase in Leishmania species and Trypanosoma cruzi.

open access: yes, 2003
This paper describes the synthesis of some novel azasterols based on (20R,22xi)-5alpha-pregnan-20-(piperidin-2-yl)-3beta,20-diol. These compounds are potential inhibitors of the enzyme sterol 24-methyltransferase (24-SMT), which is a vital enzyme in the ...
