The Locus Coeruleus‐Periaqueductal Gray GABAergic Projection Regulates Comorbid Pain and Depression
LC‐GABA neurons exhibit elevated activity to noxious and aversive stimuli in chronic pain, and their activation alleviates pain‐ and depression‐like behaviors. While LC‐GABA neurons target LC‐NA neurons and GABA and Glu neurons in the vlPAG, they modulate the pain responses of LC‐NA neurons but regulate pain‐ and depression‐like behaviors through their

A Mathematical Model of a Neuron with Synapses based on Physiology [PDF]
The neuron, when considered as a signal processing device, itsinputs are the frequency of pulses received at the synapses, and its output is the frequency of action potentials generated- in essence, a neuron is a pulse frequency signal processing device.

Common Ribs of Inhibitory Synaptic Dysfunction in the Umbrella of Neurodevelopmental Disorders
The term neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) is an umbrella term used to group together a heterogeneous class of disorders characterized by disruption in cognition, emotion, and behavior, early in the developmental timescale.

The Diversity of Cortical Inhibitory Synapses
The most typical and well known inhibitory action in the cortical microcircuit is a strong inhibition on the target neuron by axo-somatic synapses. However, it has become clear that synaptic inhibition in the cortex is much more diverse and complicated ...

An Electrolyte‐Gated InGaZnO Phototransistor that Emulates Visual Experience‐Dependent Plasticity
By utilizing the light‐history‐dependent property of the IGZO electrolyte‐gated transistor, Bienenstock‐Cooper‐Munro (BCM) learning rule is successfully emulated. Moreover, the BCM learning rule enables a variety of bionic vision functions including image edge detection and associative memory, which offers a promising route for simulating high‐order ...

Melatonin Modulates the GABAergic Response in Cultured Rat Hippocampal Neurons
In the present study, we investigated the effect of melatonin on the GABA-induced current (IGABA) and GABAergic miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs) in cultured rat hippocampal neurons using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique.

Basal ganglia play an essential role in motor coordination and cognitive functions. The GABAergic medium spiny neurons (MSNs) account for ~95 % of all the neurons in this brain region.

Synchronization-Induced Spike Termination in Networks of Bistable Neurons [PDF]
We observe and study a self-organized phenomenon whereby the activity in a network of spiking neurons spontaneously terminates. We consider different types of populations, consisting of bistable model neurons connected electrically by gap junctions, or by either excitatory or inhibitory synapses, in a scale-free connection topology.

An optoelectronic synaptic transistor based on core‐multi‐shell quantum dots and Pentacene achieves a recognition capability under different light intensities that closely resembles that of the human eye. Under optimal light intensity, the recognition accuracy for the MNIST dataset can reach 91.52%.

All-electric mimicking synaptic plasticity based on the noncollinear antiferromagnetic device [PDF]
Neuromorphic computing, which seeks to replicate the brain's ability to process information, has garnered significant attention due to its potential to achieve brain-like computing efficiency and human cognitive intelligence. Spin-orbit torque (SOT) devices can be used to simulate artificial synapses with non-volatile, high-speed processing and ...
