Single-Step Charge Transport through DNA over Long Distances [PDF]
Quantum yields for charge transport across adenine tracts of increasing length have been measured by monitoring hole transport in synthetic oligonucleotides between photoexcited 2-aminopurine, a fluorescent analogue of adenine, and N_2-cyclopropyl ...

Uric acid enhances longevity and endurance and protects the brain against ischemia [PDF]
Among mammals, there is a positive correlation between serum uric acid (UA) levels and life span. Humans have high levels of UA because they lack a functional urate oxidase (UOX) enzyme that is present in shorter lived mammals.

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Low expression of five purine metabolism‐related genes (ADSL, APRT, ADCY3, NME3, NME6) was correlated with poor survival in colorectal cancer. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that low NME3 (early stage) and low ADSL/NME6 (late stage) levels were associated with high risk.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine RNA editing [PDF]
AbstractRibonucleic acid (RNA) editing is a mechanism that generates RNA and protein diversity, which is not directly encoded in the genome. The most common type of RNA editing in vertebrates is the conversion of adenosine to inosine in double‐stranded RNA which occurs in the higher eukaryotes.

This study presents engineered probiotics that convert immunosuppressive adenosine into inosine in tumors, alleviating immunosuppression and enhancing antitumor immunity. Demonstrating efficacy in murine ectopic and orthotopic tumor models, this approach offers a promising probiotic‐based cancer immunotherapy strategy, highlighting the potential of ...

Variation of Meat Quality and Relationship to Gut Microbiota Among Different Pig Breeds. [PDF]
Our results indicated the quality of Jinhua pigs was superior to Duroc × Berkshire × Jiaxinghei pigs and Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire pigs, and the difference in meat quality was related to the abundance of fibre‐degrading bacteria. ABSTRACT Meat production is of great importance to the world's food supply and economic development, and meat quality ...
