Magnetically labeled insulin-secreting cells

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2004
Iron oxide nanoparticles have been shown to magnetically label cells in order to visualize them in vivo via MR imaging. This technology has yet to be implemented in insulin secreting cells, thus it is not known whether the presence of these nanoparticles in the cytoplasm of the cells affects insulin secretion.

Congenital absence of insulin‐secreting cells

Histopathology, 1988
A male infant was diagnosed as having diabetes mellitus 1d after birth and died on the third day. Histological examination of the pancreas showed small and inconspicuous islets of Langerhans that were completely devoid of insulin‐secreting cells. There was no evidence of insulitis.

Purinergic receptors on insulin‐secreting cells

Fundamental & Clinical Pharmacology, 1994
Summary—The insulin secreting B cell is fitted with the two types of purinergic receptors: P2(for ATP and/or ADP) and P1(for adenosine). The activation of P2purinoceptors by ATP or ADP evokes a biphasic stimulation of insulin secretion from isolated perfused rat pancreas; this stimulation is dose‐dependent between 10−6and 10−4M.

Desensitization of the insulin‐secreting beta cell

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 1992
AbstractIn human diabetes, inherent impaired insulin secretion can be exacerbated by desensitization of the β cell by chronic hyperglycemia. Interest in this phenomenon has generated extensive studies in genetic or experimentally induced diabetes in animals and in fully in vitro systems, with often conflicting results.

Increased Insulin Secretion from Insulin-Secreting Cells by Construction of Mixed Multicellular Spheroids

Pharmaceutical Research, 2015
We previously have shown that multicellular spheroids containing insulin-secreting cells are an effective therapy for diabetic mice. Here we attempted to increase insulin secretion by incorporating other cell types into spheroids.Multicellular spheroids of mouse MIN6 pancreatic β cells were formed in microwells alone and with aortic vascular ...

On-Line Monitoring of Apoptosis in Insulin-Secreting Cells

Diabetes, 2003
Apoptosis was monitored in intact insulin-producing cells both with microfluorometry and with two-photon laser scanning microscopy (TPLSM), using a fluorescent protein based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). TPLSM offers three-dimensional spatial information that can be obtained relatively deep in tissues.

Insulin Secreting Islet Cell Tumors of the Pancreas

Archives of Surgery, 1966
FUNCTIONING islet tumors of the pancreas producing spontaneous hypoglycemia have been studied with interest at McGill University since the original report from the Pathological Institute by Nicholls 1 in 1902. In 1927, Wilder et al 2 demonstrated the relationship between hyperinsulinism and a malignant islet cell tumor by means of bioassay of the ...

Potassium channels of the insulin‐secreting B cell

Fundamental & Clinical Pharmacology, 1992
Summary—Ionic and electrical events play a central role in the stimulus‐secretion coupling of the pancreatic B cell. Potassium permeability is critically involved in the regulation of B cell membrane potential and insulin secretion. In the absence of glucose, membrane potential remains stable, around − 65 mV. This resting potential is mainly determined
