Patterns of Insulin Secretion During First-Phase Insulin Secretion in Normal Chinese Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
BackgroundThe increase in diabetes worldwide is alarming. Decreased acute insulin response to intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) during first-phase insulin secretion (FPIS) is a characteristic of diabetes.

Modulation of insulin secretion by RBFOX2-mediated alternative splicing

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Insulin secretion is a tightly regulated process that is vital for maintaining blood glucose homeostasis. Although the molecular components of insulin granule trafficking and secretion are well established, how they are regulated to rapidly fine-tune ...

Ethnic differences in beta cell function occur independently of insulin sensitivity and pancreatic fat in black and white men

open access: yesBMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, 2021
Introduction It is increasingly recognized that type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a heterogenous disease with ethnic variations. Differences in insulin secretion, insulin resistance and ectopic fat are thought to contribute to these variations.

Calmodulin and insulin secretion [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1982
It is clear that calcium ions are of considerable importance as a second messenger in insulin secretion. There is increasing evidence that calmodulin, a ubiquitous intracellular regulatory protein that mediates calcium-dependent processes, has a fundamental role in stimulus-secretion coupling.

European lipodystrophy registry: background and structure

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, 2020
Background Lipodystrophy syndromes comprise a group of extremely rare and heterogeneous diseases characterized by a selective loss of adipose tissue in the absence of nutritional deprivation or catabolic state. Because of the rarity of each lipodystrophy

On insulin secretion [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1981
Aspects of insulin secretory mechanisms and models of diabetogenic B cell damage are discussed. Measurements of fluxes of 3H-labelled triphenylmethylphosphonium ion, 86Rb+, 42K+, 22Na+, and 45Ca2+ in isolated islets indicate that the triggering of insulin release depends on alterations in the interaction of ions with the B cells.

The Capacity to Secrete Insulin Is Dose-Dependent to Extremely High Glucose Concentrations: A Key Role for Adenylyl Cyclase

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Insulin secretion is widely thought to be maximally stimulated in glucose concentrations of 16.7-to-30 mM (300-to-540 mg/dL). However, insulin secretion is seldom tested in hyperglycemia exceeding these levels despite the Guinness World Record being 147 ...

Deoxysugars and Insulin Secretion

open access: yesHormone and Metabolic Research, 1977
It has been shown that a deoxysugar, D(+)-digitoxose, inhibits glucose-induced insulin release without inhibiting the glucose oxidation rates of the islets. In the present study the effect on insulin release of several other common deoxysugar (L-fucose, D-fucose, L-rhamnose, 2-deoxy-D-galactose and 2-deoxy-D-ribose) was investigated. We have found that

Assessment of endogenous insulin secretion in insulin treated diabetes predicts postprandial glucose and treatment response to prandial insulin

open access: yesBMC Endocrine Disorders, 2012
Background In patients with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes endogenous insulin secretion falls with time which changes treatment requirements, however direct measurement of endogenous insulin secretion is rarely performed.

Aging and Insulin Secretion

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1995
Aging in mammals has often been associated with decreased insulin secretion and a subsequent deterioration in the ability to maintain glucose homeostasis. However, recent studies have demonstrated that factors such as disease, obesity, and physical activity more closely reflect diminished insulin secretion rather than aging per se. Thus, the purpose of
