Genetic analysis of β1 integrin “activation motifs” in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Akey feature of integrins is their ability to regulate the affinity for ligands, a process termed integrin activation. The final step in integrin activation is talin binding to the NPXY motif of the integrin β cytoplasmic domains.

Probing Early Particle‐Cell Membrane Interactions via Single‐Cell and Single‐Particle Interaction Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The pre‐internalization phase of endocytosis remains poorly characterized at single‐cell levels. Single‐cell pre‐internalization mechanics are investigated using advanced robotic techniques. Cancer cells exhibit biphasic adhesion – rapid initial binding followed by reinforcement – while fibroblasts show gradual engagement.

Integrin β1 Promotes Peripheral Entry by Rabies Virus

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2019
Rabies is a severe zoonotic disease caused by rabies virus (RABV). However, the nature of RABV entry remains unclear, which has hindered the development of therapy for rabies.

Allosteric modulation of beta1 integrin function induces lung repair in animal model of emphysema. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Emphysema is a progressive lung disease characterised by loss of lung parenchyma with associated functional changes including decreased tissue elastance. Here we report beta1 integrin is a novel target for tissue repair and regeneration in emphysema.

Engineering Topographical Cues to Enhance Neural Regeneration in Spinal Cord Injury: Overcoming Challenges and Advancing Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses significant challenges for regeneration due to a series of secondary injury mechanisms. How to use biomaterial approach to target the failed regeneration after SCI remains a critical challenge. This review systematically evaluates current strategies to optimize biomaterial topographies for neurite outgrowth, axonal ...

Regulation of trophoblast beta1-integrin expression by contact with endothelial cells

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling, 2004
Background In human and non-human primates, migratory trophoblasts penetrate the uterine epithelium, invade uterine matrix, and enter the uterine vasculature. Invasive trophoblasts show increased expression of β1 integrin.

A disintegrin and metalloenzyme (ADAM) 17 activation is regulated by α5β1 integrin in kidney mesangial cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The disintegrin and metalloenzyme ADAM17 participates in numerous inflammatory and proliferative diseases, and its pathophysiological role was implicated in kidney fibrosis, polycystic kidney disease and other chronic kidney diseases. At present, we have

Thrombospondin-3 augments injury-induced cardiomyopathy by intracellular integrin inhibition and sarcolemmal instability. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Thrombospondins (Thbs) are a family of five secreted matricellular glycoproteins in vertebrates that broadly affect cell-matrix interaction. While Thbs4 is known to protect striated muscle from disease by enhancing sarcolemmal stability through increased

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Beta 1 integrin predicts survival in breast cancer: a clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology, 2012
Background The main focus of several studies concerned with cancer progression and metastasis is to analyze the mechanisms that allow cancer cells to interact and quickly adapt with their environment.
