SummaryTo evaluate the balance of interleukin IL18 and its endogenous antagonist IL18 binding protein (IL18BP) in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), plasma IL18, IL18BP, interferon gamma (IFNG) and IL4 levels, as well as platelet counts were measured in patients with active ITP (n = 23), ITP in remission (n = 21) and in healthy ...

Interleukin 18–binding protein ameliorates liver ischemia–reperfusion injury
Journal of Surgical Research, 2016The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective effect of interleukin 18-binding protein (IL-18BP) on ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced liver injury in experimental rat models. Liver is one of the most affected organs from I/R process.

Background Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune illness characterized by an aberrant T cell response, which is supported by autoreactive B cell growth and differentiation. IL-18 expression has been linked to a number of autoimmune and inflammatory illnesses.

Rat Interleukin-18 Binding Protein: Cloning, Expression, and Characterization
Journal of Interferon & Cytokine Research, 2002Interleukin-18 binding protein (IL-18BP) is a constitutively expressed and secreted protein that lacks a transmembrane domain. IL-18BP binds specifically to mature IL-18 and inhibits its activity. To study the immunomodulating role of IL-18BP in models of autoimmune diseases in rats, we cloned and characterized rat IL-18BP.

Although interleukin (IL)-18 is a member of the IL-1 family of ligands, IL-18 appears to have unique characteristics, particularly in the regulation of the T helper type 1 (Th1) response. Th1 responses are required for tumor surveillance, killing intracellular organisms, and to provide help for antibody production.

Novel targets for interleukin 18 binding protein
Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2001Interleukin 18 (IL18) is related to the IL1 family by structure, receptors, signalling molecules, and function. IL18 induces gene expression and synthesis of tumour necrosis factor (TNF), IL1, Fas ligand, several chemokines, and vascular adhesion molecules.

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, 2008
Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is increased in the inflamed mucosa of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). The balance between this pleiotropic proinflammatory cytokine and its natural inhibitor, IL-18-binding protein (IL-18BP), may contribute to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).Serum and mucosal biopsies were collected from children with ...
