The association of interleukin-31 polymorphisms with interleukin-31 serum levels and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus

Rheumatology International, 2016
Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is the most recently discovered member of the gp130/IL-6 cytokine family which is produced mainly by activated Th2 cells. IL-31 was proved to play a crucial role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis, asthma, cutaneous T cell lymphomas, Kawasaki disease and allergic rhinitis.

Interleukin 31 and skin diseases: A systematic review

Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2017
Although the pathophysiology of pruritus has been extensively studied in recent years, with many resultant advancements, management of pruritus is still enigmatic, particularly in chronic cutaneous diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, chronic urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and uremic pruritus.

Interleukin 31 is involved in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2016
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a liver disorder characterized by maternal itching and altered liver function. Interleukin (IL)-31 is known to be involved in the pathogenesis of pruritic inflammatory skin diseases. In a three-year period, 13 women with a singleton pregnancy and a diagnosis of intrahepatic cholestasis (ICP) were enrolled ...

Interleukin-31: A Novel Diagnostic Marker of Allergic Diseases

Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2014
Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a newly discovered cytokine associated with chronic skin inflammation and pruritus. Patients with atopic dermatitis, chronic spontaneous urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, primary cutaneous lymphoma and mastocytosis exhibit increased serum levels of IL-31 protein and elevated IL-31 mRNA in the skin ...

Correlation of serum interleukin-31 with pruritus and blood eosinophil markers in children with atopic dermatitis.

Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2020
Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is chronic pruritic inflammatory skin disease in children. Interleukin (IL) 31 is a recently discovered cytokine associated with chronic skin inflammation and pruritus.

Interleukin 31 receptor alpha induces airway hyperresponsiveness in asthma

2022
ABSTRACTAsthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), inflammation, and goblet cell hyperplasia. Both Th1 and Th2 cytokines, including IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-13 have been shown to induce asthma; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We observed a significant increase in the expression of IL-

Functional effects of interleukin 31 in human primary keratinocytes.

Allergy, 2011
Interleukin (IL)-31 is a T-cell cytokine acting through a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL-31RA and OSMR which is expressed on epithelial cells including keratinocytes. A major function of IL-31 in atopic dermatitis (AD) is the induction of pruritus in the skin.

Interleukin 31 in vitiligo patients with and without pruritus

Acta Dermatovenerologica Alpina Pannonica et Adriatica
Vitiligo is a prevalent skin disorder characterized by the destruction of melanocytes, leading to depigmented patches across various areas of the body. Interleukin (IL)-31 has been implicated in the development of pruritus and skin inflammation, potentially contributing to cutaneous symptoms.

Interleukin-31 is associated with uremic pruritus in patients receiving hemodialysis

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2014
Interleukin (IL)-31 induces severe pruritus and dermatitis in transgenic mice, and is associated with many itching skin diseases. We sought to investigate the association of serum IL-31 levels with uremic pruritus in patients undergoing hemodialysis.Patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis in a referral medical center were recruited.

Immunohistochemical study of interleukin-31 in patients with atopic dermatitis

Egyptian Journal of Dermatology and Venereology, 2018
Background Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease of unknown etiology. Reduction of pruritus as one of the hallmarks of AD is the most effective therapeutic strategy for improving quality of life and for preventing aggravation of skin lesion. Interleukin-31 (IL-31) has been suggested to play a role
