Successful treatment of Erdheim-Chester disease by interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein
Joint Bone Spine, 2014Erdheim-Chester disease is a rare non-langerhans systemic histiocytosis of unknown origin, associated with bone diseases and severe visceral complications. Therapies have been disappointing. A recombinant form of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (anakinra) has been used in a few cases when usual treatment fails.

Protein Expression and Purification, 1997
Human interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-1ra mutants were constitutively expressed in recombinant Bacillus subtilis in endocellular and active form. In order to optimize the purification of the recombinant proteins, a new method has been developed.

Treatment With an Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein Prolongs Mouse Islet Allograft Survival
Diabetes, 1993An interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein was evaluated with regard to its efficacy in allogeneic and xenogeneic islet transplantation. Alloxan-induced diabetic C57BL/6 (H-2b) mice were transplanted under the kidney capsule with 500 C57BL/Ks (H-2d) mouse islets.

The mouse interleukin 1 receptor antagonist protein: gene structure and regulation in vitro
Cytokine, 1994The interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) protein is an inhibitor of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin 1. We have sequenced the mouse gene encoding the monocyte form of IL-1ra (IL-1rn) and compared it with the sequence of the human homologue.

Recombinant interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (rlRAP, 0.5 mg/kg) administered intraperitoneally in guinea pigs one hour before primary and booster parenteral sensitization (1 ml) by cow milk, led to a reduced immunoglobulin E (IgE) production, as displayed by a passive cutaneous anaphylaxis test.

Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2023
Blocking the interleukin-1 (IL-1) catabolic cascade following joint trauma can be achieved using its receptor antagonist, IL-1Ra. However, its clinical translation for osteoarthritis therapy has been unsuccessful due to its rapid joint clearance and lack of targeting and penetration into deep cartilage layers at therapeutic concentrations.

Numerous reports have demonstrated that interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) is a potent secretagogue for adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and that IL-1 alpha appears to be considerably less efficacious. To clarify apparent differences in the potency of IL-1 alpha vs. -beta on ACTH secretion from a functional perspective, the IL-1 receptor antagonist protein, IRAP,

An interleukin 1 (IL-1) inhibitor was detected in the culture supernatant of mouse epidermal sheet which had been irradiated with middle-wavelength ultraviolet (UVB) either in vitro or in vivo. Properties of the IL-1 inhibitor were consistent with those of IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra), i.e., approximate molecular size of 17 kDa by gel filtration ...

Genetic Regulation and Activities of an Interleukin 1 Receptor Antagonist Protein
1993Publisher Summary The cytokine interleukin 1 (IL-1) plays an important role in the response to infection and injury. IL-1 can have positive effects on events in the immune response, including T, B, and natural killer (NK) cell activation. Glucocorticoids inhibit both the synthesis of IL-1 and its action on glucocorticoid-sensitive IL-1-responsive ...

1. The role of interleukin-1 (IL-1) in sepsis-induced muscle proteolysis was assessed by treating septic rats with recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist (rIL-1ra). 2. In initial experiments, we tested the effectiveness of IL-1ra in preventing muscle proteolysis induced by administration of IL-1. 3.
