Factors and Experiences Associated With Unscheduled Hospital Readmission After Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Case–Controlled Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1389-1396, May 2025.
The research utilized a case–control approach to contrast patients experiencing unscheduled readmissions with those undergoing planned readmissions due to staged surgery. Findings indicated a 3.88% rate of unscheduled readmissions, mainly linked to adjacent segment disease, with 3.35% necessitating reoperation.

Establishing a Staging System for Adjacent Segment Disease and Exploring Its Significance in Guiding Surgical Decisions: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1418-1432, May 2025.
Developed a staging system for adjacent segment disease based on degeneration characteristics. Verified the feasibility and reliability of stage‐guided surgical decision‐making through surgical data, radiological data, and follow‐up data. This staging system was closely correlated with intervertebral disc degeneration and disc height while also ...

Quantifying the Trajectory of Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy in 3D Lumbar Models Based on Automated MR Image Segmentation—A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Constructing a network for automatic lumbar MR image segmentation. Evaluated the effects of different puncture angles of the PELD procedure on the lumbar vertebral bone structure, nerve, and dural sac. ABSTRACT Objective Creating a 3D lumbar model and planning a personalized puncture trajectory has an advantage in establishing the working channel for ...

Risk Factors for Poor Matching of Intervertebral Fusion Devices After Posterior Vertebral Column Resection in Patients With Kyphosis or Kyphoscoliosis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
The use of IFDs to reconstruct the anterior and middle column defects following PVCR demonstrated a high incidence of poor matching (40.2%). The Cobb angle of segmental kyphosis, the angle between osteotomy surfaces, and the height of IFDs are identified as independent risk factors for poor matching of IFDs after PVCR.
