A zebrafish (Danio rerio) model of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) infection

open access: yesVirology, 2008
Zebrafish is a model animal for studies of genetics, development, toxicology, oncology, and immunology. In this study, infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) was used to establish an infection in zebrafish, and the experimental conditions were established and characterized.

Deleting ORF71L of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) resulted in virulence attenuation in Mandarin fish

Fish and Shellfish Immunology, 2022
Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV), the type species of the genus Megalocytivirus, infects a variety of teleost fish species and causes substantial losses in the aquaculture industry worldwide. ISKNV ORF71L is 1611 bp in length, encodes a 537-amino-acid peptide and was previously identified as a viral structural protein in the ISKNV ...

Tetraodon nigroviridis as a nonlethal model of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) infection

open access: yesVirology, 2010
Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) is the type species of the genus Megalocytivirus, family Iridoviridae. We have previously established a high mortality ISKNV infection model of zebrafish (Danio rerio). In this study, a nonlethal Tetraodon nigroviridis model of ISKNV infection was established.

Genotype and host range analysis of infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV)

Virus Genes, 2010
Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) is the causative agent of a disease causing high mortality in mandarin fish, Siniperca chuatsi. In this study, complete major capsid protein (MCP) genes of nine ISKNV isolates were sequenced and compared with other known megalocytiviruses to evaluate genetic variation and host range of the viruses ...

Isolation and characterisation of an ISKNV-genotype megalocytivirus from imported angelfish Pterophyllum scalare

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2020
Using cultures of the SKF-9 cell line, megalocytivirus AFIV-16 was isolated from imported angelfish Pterophyllum scalare held in quarantine at the Australian border. The cytopathic effect caused by isolate AFIV-16 presented as cell rounding and enlargement, but complete destruction of the infected cell cultures did not occur.

Administration of recombinant IFN1 protects zebrafish (Danio rerio) from ISKNV infection

Fish and Shellfish Immunology, 2010
In the present study, we used the infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) and zebrafish model system to investigate the inhibitory effect of recombinant zebrafish interferon 1 (zfrIFN1) on acute viral infection and the impact of time of zfrIFN1 administration on its protective efficacy.
