The types of endocrine cells in the pancreas of Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica) [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2016
Aim: To identify the types of endocrine cells in the pancreas of the Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica) and its immunolocalization. Materials and Methods: Five adult H. javanica were used without sexual distinction.

Metabolism of Glucose in the Islets of Langerhans

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1968
Abstract The levels of glycogen, glucose, glucose-6-P, the sum of fructose diphosphate plus dihydroxyacetone-P, ATP, and the pyridine nucleotides were measured in endocrine and exocrine tissue of the pancreas of obese hyperglycemic mice. Sorbitol was determined in both types of tissue after a single intravenous injection of the compound.

Collection of islets of Langerhans using an equilibrium method

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2013
Here we present a convenient method for easy hand selection of enzymatically isolated small tissues such as islets of Langerhans. Islets are continuously collected in a micropipette tip connected to a peristaltic pump.

Expression of vitamin D receptor, CYP24A1, and CYP27B1 in normal and inflamed canine pancreases

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
Vitamin D plays a role in anti-inflammatory processes, and the alteration of its metabolism is associated with the inflammatory processes of pancreatitis.

Effect of Ganoderma lucidum hydroalcoholic extract on insulin release in rat-isolated pancreatic islets [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2012
Objective: Ganoderma Lucidum (G. Lucidum) has been suggested to increase serum insulin level. This study was undertaken to investigateits direct effect on the islets of Langerhans.

Reinnervation of Isolated Islets of Langerhans Transplanted beneath the Kidney Capsule in the Rat

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 1994
Neural regulation of islets of Langerhans mediates responses to stress and food ingestion. Transplantation of isolated islets offers hope to patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus but denervation of isolated islets may affect the capacity for ...

The effect of ghrelin on Kiss-1 and KissR gene transcription and insulin secretion in rat islets of Langerhans and CRI-D2 cell line [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2017
Objective(s): Ghrelin is a peptide hormone that has been shown to have numerous central and peripheral effects. The central effects including GH secretion, food intake, and energy homeostasis are partly mediated by Kiss1- KissR signaling pathway. Ghrelin

Rodent monocyte‐derived macrophages do not express CD163: Comparative analysis using macrophages from living boreoeutherians

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD163 is a scavenger receptor predominantly expressed on the surfaces of macrophages in various mammalian species and is a marker of anti‐inflammatory (M2‐like) macrophages. High density of CD163‐positive tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) is associated with worse prognosis in various patient tumors.

Streptozotocin induced hyperglycemia in the axolotl

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Diabetes is a group of diseases characterized by loss of β cell mass and/or function, resulting in hyperglycemia. With no established curative treatment, this has initiated research in β cell regeneration. Current animal models have either limited regenerative capacity (mice) or small size and evolutionary distance from humans ...

Exploring the Impact of a High‐Fat Diet on Brain Homeostasis: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Absence of Inflammation

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Male and female mice were fed different diets for up to 24 weeks to study the effects of phytosterols (PS) on weight gain and brain immune cells. PS reduced weight gain in HFD‐fed mice. Microglia were isolated from brains and analyzed, revealing no diet‐driven inflammation changes, but differences based on sex and age.
