Association between the JC polyomavirus infection and male infertility. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In recent years the incidence of male infertility has increased. Many risk factors have been taken into consideration, including viral infections. Investigations into viral agents and male infertility have mainly been focused on human papillomaviruses ...

Enhancement of the Critical Current Density of YBa2Cu3Ox Superconductors under Hydrostatic Pressure [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 96, 077001 (2006), 2005
The dependence of the critical current density Jc on hydrostatic pressure to 0.6 GPa is determined for a single 25-degree [001]-tilt grain boundary in a bicrystalline ring of nearly optimally doped melt-textured YBa2Cu3Ox. Jc is found to increase rapidly under pressure at +20 %/GPa. A new diagnostic method is introduced (pressure-induced Jc relaxation)

Understanding Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy Risk in Multiple Sclerosis Patients Treated with Immunomodulatory Therapies: A Bird’s Eye View

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
The increased use of newer potent immunomodulatory therapies for multiple sclerosis (MS), including natalizumab, fingolimod, and dimethyl fumarate, has expanded the patient population at risk for developing progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML)

Role of JC Virus Agnoprotein in DNA Repair [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2004
ABSTRACTThe late region of human neurotropic JC virus encodes a small 71-amino-acid agnoprotein that is also found in the polyomaviruses simian virus 40 and BK virus. Several functions of agnoprotein have been identified, including roles in regulating viral transcription and virion maturation.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in seven patients with sarcoidosis: a critical discussion of treatment and prognosis

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2021
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a subacute brain infection by the opportunistic John Cunningham (JC) virus. Herein, we describe seven patients with PML, lymphopenia, and sarcoidosis, in three of whom PML was the first manifestation of

p53 Inhibits JC Virus DNA Replicationin Vivoand Interacts with JC Virus Large T-Antigen

open access: yesVirology, 1996
The onset of DNA replication is an important step within the life cycle of the human neurotropic polyomavirus JC. In this report, evidence that both the human and the murine tumor suppressor protein p53 strongly inhibit JCV DNA replication in vivo is presented.

Neutron irradiation of coated conductors [PDF]

open access: yesSupercond. Sci. Technol. 23 (2010) 014009, 2009
Various commercial coated conductors were irradiated with fast neutrons in order to introduce randomly distributed, uncorrelated defects which increase the critical current density, Jc, in a wide temperature and field range. The Jc-anisotropy is significantly reduced and the angular dependence of Jc does not obey the anisotropic scaling approach. These

A case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in a HIV-infected female patient [PDF]

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2016
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) caused by JC virus is a severe central nervous lesion developing in the presence of obvious immunodeficiency. In most cases, the disease results in a fatal outcome within a few months.

Fatal ruxolitinib-related JC virus meningitis

open access: yesJournal of NeuroVirology, 2017
We report a possible association between ruxolitinib and JC virus meningitis. A 72-year-old man with myelofibrosis started treatment with ruxolitinib. Fourteen days later, the patient presented to the emergency department with fever and nausea. HIV test was negative. Ruxolitinib was suspended.

Self-organized critical dynamics of RNA virus evolution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
RNA virus (e.g., SARS-CoV-2) evolves in a complex manner. Studying RNA virus evolution is vital for understanding molecular evolution and medicine development. Scientists lack, however, general frameworks to characterize the dynamics of RNA virus evolution directly from empirical data and identify potential physical laws. To fill this gap, we present a
