Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

The job demands-resources model

open access: yes, 2016
This chapter focuses on one of most influential frameworks, the Job Demands-Resources (JDR) model, which conceptualizes job demands and job resources within the work environment, and how these factors affect health and well-being over time. It reviews the research conducted in relation to the JDR framework, which links job demands and job resources to ...

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...

Stress and well-being of University Staff: an investigation using the Demands-Resources-Individual Effects (DRIVE) model and Well-being Process Questionnaire (WPQ). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Research suggests that university staff have high stress levels but less is known about the well-being of this group. The present study used an adapted version of the Demands-Resources-Individual Effects (DRIVE) model to investigate these topics. It also
