KDM4A Erases the H3R17me2a Mark, Facilitating Chromosome Condensation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
This study reveals a reversible histone modification switch governing chromosome condensation during mitosis. PKCα‐activated KDM4A removes H3R17me2a, permitting Suv39h1‐driven H3K9me3 deposition. This epigenetic transition recruits the chromosomal passenger complex and triggers Aurora B‐dependent H3S10 phosphorylation, coordinating chromatin remodeling

Regulation of the JMJD3 (KDM6B) histone demethylase in glioblastoma stem cells by STAT3

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2016
SUMMARY The growth factor and cytokine regulated transcription factor STAT3 is required for the self-renewal of several stem cell types including tumor stem cells from glioblastoma. Here we show that STAT3 inhibition leads to the upregulation of the histone H3K27me2/3 demethylase Jmjd3 (KDM6B), which can reverse polycomb complex ...

Kdm6b regulates context-dependent hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and leukemogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesLeukemia, 2019
The histone demethylase KDM6B (JMJD3) is upregulated in blood disorders, suggesting that it may have important pathogenic functions. Here we examined the function of Kdm6b in hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) to evaluate its potential as a therapeutic target.

Histone Modifications in Cardiovascular Disease: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
This graphical abstract summarizes how classical and emerging histone posttranslational modifications (PTMs), together with their chromatin regulators (writers, erasers, and readers), govern major pathobiological programs in cardiovascular disease.

Cytoreductive nephrectomy in the era of immune‐checkpoint inhibitors: back to the future?

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 137, Issue 5, Page 763-769, May 2026.
Objective To investigate the role of cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN) in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) treated with immune‐checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Methods A narrative review was carried out using PubMed and searching for English articles published from January 2015 to May 2025.

The Metabolic Role of Mitochondria in the Perinatal Cardiac Development and Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesExploration, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
This review explores the critical role of mitochondria in heart development and cardiovascular disease. It highlights how mitochondrial maturation during embryonic‐to‐postnatal transition, regulated by oxygen and metabolic changes, shapes cardiac structure and function.

Active H3K27me3 demethylation by KDM6B is required for normal development of bovine preimplantation embryos

open access: yesEpigenetics, 2017
The substantial epigenetic remodeling that occurs during early stages of mammalian embryonic development likely contributes to reprogramming the parental genomes from a differentiated to a totipotent state and activation of the embryonic genome ...

Osteoarthritis: Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Treatment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
Osteoarthritis is a prevalent degenerative joint disease with a growing global burden. Its development involves complex interactions among epidemiological factors, pathological changes, molecular signaling, and epigenetic regulation. Understanding these mechanisms provides insights into disease progression and supports the development of therapeutic ...

Refractory testicular germ cell tumors are highly sensitive to the targeting of polycomb pathway demethylases KDM6A and KDM6B

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling
Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) can be treated with cisplatin-based therapy. However, a clinically significant number of cisplatin-resistant patients die from progressive disease as no effective alternatives exist.

Kdm6b-mediated epigenetic coordination of temporal precision during motor neuron differentiation

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Histone modifiers are crucial for instructing multiple-stage cellular differentiation, yet the mechanisms underlying their temporal precision remain enigmatic.
