Immunoblotting Assays for Keratan Sulfate
Analytical Biochemistry, 2002The detection of microquantities of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in biological samples has been hampered by the lack of sensitive methods. In this paper we describe the modification and development of three sensitive assays capable of detecting nanogram quantities of GAGs in biological samples. The first assay detects total GAGs.

Water vapor sorption of keratan sulfate
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1975Keratan sulfate was isolated from bovine cornea. The water vapor sorption isotherms were obtained on both sodium and calcium salts of keratan sulfate at different temperatures. Deuterated water sorption isotherms were obtained on sodium keratan sulfates.

The Linkage of Corneal Keratan Sulfate to Protein
Connective Tissue Research, 1975The linkage of corneal keratan sulfate to protein has been investigated. After exhaustive digestion of bovine corneas with papain and pronase, a product was obtained in which aspartic acid was the predominant amino acid and constituted 59% of the total amino acids.

Keratan sulfate in body fluids in joint disease [PDF]
Keratan sulfate (KS) is a highly-negatively charged glycosaminoglycan which is found principally in aggrecan, the most abundant proteoglycan in the extracellular matrix of hyaline, fibrous and elastic cartilage. In 1985, we discovered that small peptidoglycans bearing antigenic KS (agKS) were present in small amounts in human serum and postulated that ...

Vacuum ultraviolet circular dichroism of keratan sulfate
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1987The vacuum ultraviolet CD of keratan sulfate reveals an intense negative CD band at 171 nm. Its intensity can be rationalized with a recently proposed quadrant rule in terms of the acetamido group being slightly tilted toward the hexosaminidic linkage oxygen.
