Overcoming Printing and Interfacial Challenges in Liquid Metal Direct Writing for Integrated Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Liquid metal direct writing is advanced from a technological and fundamental point. Utilizing a kinematic bed, printing on large surfaces with irregularities is enabled. Furthermore, a pressure‐driven flow during printing is discovered that affects the thickness of traces.

Configuration-based compliance control of kinematically redundant robot arm Part II: Experimental validation [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2017
This two-part paper presents an approach to the control of robot endpoint compliance, i.e., elasto-mechanical interaction between a robot and its environment using kinematic redundancy instead of actuation redundancy. In Part I this approach is developed

Kinematics of the six-degree-of-freedom force-reflecting Kraft Master [PDF]

open access: yes
Presented here are kinematic equations for a six degree of freedom force-reflecting hand controller. The forward kinematics solution is developed and shown in simplified form. The Jacobian matrix, which uses terms from the forward kinematics solution, is

Kinematic Feedback Control Using Dual Quaternions

open access: yes2018 26th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation (MED), 2018
This paper presents results on kinematic controllers for the stabilization of rigid body displacements using dual quaternions. The paper shows how certain results for quaternion stabilization of rotation can be extended to dual quaternions stabilization of displacements.

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Instantaneous midbrain control of saccade kinematics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
AbstractThe ability to interact with our environment requires the brain to transform spatially-represented sensory signals into temporally-encoded motor commands for appropriate control of the relevant effectors. For visually-guided eye movements, or saccades, the superior colliculus (SC) is assumed to be the final stage of spatial representation, and ...

Dynamic determinants of the uncontrolled manifold during human quiet stance

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2016
Human postural sway during stance arises from coordinated multi-joint movements. Thus, a sway trajectory represented by a time-varying postural vector in the multiple-joint-angle-space tends to be constrained to a low-dimensional subspace.

Volume Fractions of the Kinematic "Near-Critical" Sets of the Quantum Ensemble Control Landscape

open access: yes, 2011
An estimate is derived for the volume fraction of a subset $C_{\epsilon}^{P} = \{U : ||grad J(U)|\leq {\epsilon}\}\subset\mathrm{U}(N)$ in the neighborhood of the critical set $C^{P}\simeq\mathrm{U}(\mathbf{n})P\mathrm{U}(\mathbf{m})$ of the kinematic ...
