CLASH-VLT: Testing the Nature of Gravity with Galaxy Cluster Mass Profiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We use high-precision kinematic and lensing measurements of the total mass profile of the dynamically relaxed galaxy cluster MACS J1206.2-0847 at $z=0.44$ to estimate the value of the ratio $\eta=\Psi/\Phi$ between the two scalar potentials in the linear

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

An Ultra-High-Aspect-Ratio Telescopic Continuum Robot Design for Aero-Engine Borescope Inspection

open access: yesAerospace
Conventional borescopes are limited by inadequate mechanical flexibility, poor environmental adaptability and reachability, and heavy reliance on operator expertise during aero-engine inspections, making it difficult to meet the demands for efficient and

A new approach to the solution of free rigid body motion for attitude manoeuvers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A Hamiltonian formulation of free rigid body motion defined on the Special Unitary Group SU(2) is used to integrate the system to obtain a convenient quaternion representation for attitude engineering applications.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Computer simulation and design of a three degree-of-freedom shoulder module [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
An in-depth kinematic analysis of a three degree of freedom fully-parallel robotic shoulder module is presented. The major goal of the analysis is to determine appropriate link dimensions which will provide a maximized workspace along with desirable ...

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

New high order sufficient conditions for configuration tracking

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we propose new conditions guaranteeing that the trajectories of a mechanical control system can track any curve on the configuration manifold.

Exploiting hybrid parallelism in the kinematic analysis of multibody systems based on group equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Computational kinematics is a fundamental tool for the design, simulation, control, optimization and dynamic analysis of multibody systems. The analysis of complex multibody systems and the need for real time solutions requires the development of ...
