1‐Methylcyclopropene Containing‐Paper Enhances the Storability of Anxi Persimmon by Regulating Energy Metabolism

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
1‐Methylcyclopropene (1‐MCP) containing‐paper delayed the color change and maintained higher rate of commercially acceptable fruit in Anxi persimmons during storage were attributed to the increased activities of H+‐ATPase, Ca2+‐ATPase, and Mg2+‐ATPase and higher levels of ATP content and energy charge (EC).

Research progress on iron absorption, transport, and molecular regulation strategy in plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
Iron is a trace element essential for normal plant life activities and is involved in various metabolic pathways such as chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis, and respiration. Although iron is highly abundant in the earth’s crust, the amount that can be

Cold hardiness mechanisms and modeling: existing approaches and future avenues

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Cold hardiness models are useful tools to predict cold damage in plants, such as those produced by unseasonal temperature cycles or by increased cold exposure. Although development of these models started about five decades ago, their applications remain limited.

The antifungal activity and mechanism of silver nanoparticles against four pathogens causing kiwifruit post-harvest rot

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Post-harvest rot causes enormous economic loss to the global kiwifruit industry. Currently, there are no effective fungicides to combat the disease. It is unclear whether silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are effective in controlling post-harvest rot and, if ...

Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Quiescence of postharvest pathogens: a fungal inhibition process or an immune response of the unripe host fruit?

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Postharvest pathogens can infect fresh produce both before and after harvest, by direct or wound‐enhanced penetration, remaining quiescent until ripening. Biotrophic‐like postharvest pathogens persist beneath host cells and can remain in a state of quiescence.
