Tricarboxylic Acids Cycle or Krebs Cycle
2019Krebs cycle, present in cells containing mitochondria, is described in an easily memorisable logical sequence. It is also explained why, when a patient is mechanically ventilated, care must be taken not to fall below 25 mmHg of PaCO2.

Casting an eye on the Krebs cycle
Nature Genetics, 2008A new study identifies recessive, loss-of-function mutations in IDH3B, encoding a subunit of the NAD-specific isocitrate dehydrogenase, in individuals with retinitis pigmentosa. The lack of any obvious clinical signs in other tissues in these individuals forces a reassessment of the physiological role of this enzyme outside of the retina.

The citric acid cycle (CAC) has several functions in aerobic bacteria. Together with the pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex (PDHC), it completely oxidizes pyruvate and provides membrane-bound respiratory systems with reducing equivalents. An overview of the biochemistry and genetics of CAC enzymes in B. subtilis is presented in this chapter. B.
