Sequence analysis of the cis-regulatory regions of the bithorax complex of Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The bithorax complex (BX-C) of Drosophila, one of two complexes that act as master regulators of the body plan of the fly, has now been entirely sequenced and comprises approximate to 315,000 bp, only 1.4% of which codes for protein.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate regulates the expression of Kruppel-like factor 4 through myocyte enhancer factor 2A [PDF]

open access: yesCell Stress and Chaperones, 2014
Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a powerful antioxidant and free ion scavenger found in green tea, exhibits inhibitory effects on different stages of tumorigenesis. Within gastric cancer cells, the transcription factor Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) is downregulated, and it is possible that EGCG exerts its anti-tumorigenic function through modulation ...

Unraveling the Morphological and Functional Maturation Mechanisms Underlying Human Neural Development Using iPSCs‐Derived Neuronal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs)‐derived neuronal model, Tian and colleagues reveal that voltage‐gated calcium channels Cav1.2 and Cav1.3, and their mediated calcium ion influx, are essential for early morphogenesis of human neuronal development, while ECEL1 underlies human neuronal functional developmental maturation through CALM3 ...

Occurrence and Significance of the Nuclear Transcription Factor Krüppel-Like Factor 4 (KLF4) in the Vessel Wall

open access: yesActa Medica, 2009
Practically all mammalian cells including human can switch, according to micro- or macroenvironmental conditions, from states of cellular quiescence to inflammatory activation and vice versa.

Additional Clues for a Protective Role ofVitamin D in Neurodegenerative Diseases: 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 Triggers an Anti-Inflammatory Response in BrainPericytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceEpidemiological and experimental studies suggest that 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25D) plays a neuroprotectiverole in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease.

Nap1L4a Cooperates with Scl/Klf1 to Recruit H2A.Z in Mediating Interactions Among Cis‐Regulatory Elements and Transcription Required for Primitive Erythropoiesis in Zebrafish

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nap1l4a is required in erythropoiesis and hypoxia responses via physical interaction with Klf1 and Scl to recruit the histone variant H2A.Z. This facilitates its associated cis‐regulatory element (CRE) remodeling and the consequent chromatin assembly, and activates the transcription of erythroid lineage‐specific genes.

Microcystin‐LR Triggers Renal Tubular Ferroptosis Through Epigenetic Repression of GPX4: Implications for Environmental Nephrotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MC‐LR stabilizes DNMT1/3a by blocking their ubiquitin‐mediated degradation, leading to Gpx4 promoter hypermethylation and E2F4/NCoR‐associated transcriptional repression, which drives renal tubular ferroptosis in mice. Pharmacological inhibition of DNA methylation (SGI‐1027) or ferroptosis (Fer‐1) disrupts this DNMT‐GPX4 axis, thereby alleviating MC‐LR‐

Krüppel‐like factor 4 regulates stemness and mesenchymal properties of colorectal cancer stem cells through the TGF‐β1/Smad/snail pathway

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 2019
Krüppel‐like factor 4 (KLF4) was closely associated with epithelial‐mesenchymal transition and stemness in colorectal cancer stem cells (CSCs)‐enriched spheroid cells. Nonetheless, the underlying molecular mechanism is unclear.
