Mechanism of Oxidation of L-Histidine by Heptavalent Manganese in Alkaline Medium

open access: yesE-Journal of Chemistry, 2005
The kinetics of oxidation of L-histidine by manganese(VII) in aqueous alkaline medium at a constant ionic strength of 0.05 mol dm-3 was studied spectrophotometrically.

Changes in Carnosine and its Related Constituents during Embryonic Development in the Breast Muscle of Layer and Broiler Chickens

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2009
Developmental changes in the levels of carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine), its derivative anserine (β-alanyl-1-methyl-L-histidine), and their constituents including β-alanine, L-histidine and 1-methylhistidine in the pectoralis muscle were ...

Study of the structure and properties of zinc silicate stabilized with L-histidine

open access: yesФизико-химические аспекты изучения кластеров, наноструктур и наноматериалов, 2022
This paper presents the results of a study of the process of stabilization of zinc silicate nanoparticles using the amino acid L-histidine. Zinc acetate was used as a precursor, sodium silicate was used as a precipitant, and the amino acid L -histidine ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

‘Guide and Prejudice’— How Argonautes recognize targets across domains of life

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Argonaute proteins use short nucleic‐acid guides to locate and regulate specific targets across all domains of life. Despite striking diversity—from human gene silencing to bacterial immune defence—all Argonautes share a conserved three‐stage recognition logic: guide‐directed sampling, progressive target pairing with a conformational checkpoint and ...

Histidine-aspartate phosphotransfer architectures.

open access: yes, 2018
(A) A canonical two-component signaling system consists of a histidine kinase and a response regulator, wherein a signal is transmitted by transfer of a phosphoryl group from a conserved histidine in the HisKA domain (teal oval) to a conserved aspartate ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Epitope Labeling of Histidine Decarboxylase in Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Histidine decarboxylase (HDC) plays a critical role in the synthesis of histamine, a central nervous system neurotransmitter used by both vertebrates and invertebrates.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Safety and efficacy of l‐histidine monohydrochloride monohydrate produced using Corynebacterium glutamicum KCCM 80179 for all animal species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2019
Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on l‐histidine monohydrochloride (HCl) monohydrate produced by fermentation using ...
