SOX11 and SOX4 drive the reactivation of an embryonic gene program during murine wound repair
Wounding induces changes in cell identity but the mechanisms regulating this are unclear. Here, the authors show that Sox11/Sox4 expression in the leading edge of wounds converts murine epidermal cells to an embryonic-like state and facilitates repair.

Using CRISPR/Cas9 to model human liver disease
Summary: CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing has revolutionised biomedical research. The ease of design has allowed many groups to apply this technology for disease modelling in animals. While the mouse remains the most commonly used organism for embryonic editing,

Differential impact of L-arginine deprivation on the activation and effector functions of T cells and macrophages. [PDF]
The metabolism of the amino acid L-arginine is emerging as a crucial mechanism for the regulation of immune responses. Here, we characterized the impact of L-arginine deprivation on T cell and macrophage (MPhi) effector functions: We show that whereas L ...

Physicochemical Studies on L-Cell Virions [PDF]
The L-cell virion (LCV) has been purified from supernatant fluids of mouse L cells grown in suspension culture. The virion is similar to other RNA tumor viruses by several criteria: (i) the density of the virion is 1.16 g/cm 3 ; (ii) the virion appears as a rounded membranous particle with an outer diameter of 146.7

Characterising dye-sensitised solar cells [PDF]
In today’s society there is a vast and in many cases not fully appreciated dependence on electrical power for everyday life. Furthermore, with growing energy and environmental concerns arising due to fossil fuel depletion and climate change/global ...

Glucose Sensing in L Cells: A Primary Cell Study
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is an enteric hormone that stimulates insulin secretion and improves glycaemia in type 2 diabetes. Although GLP-1-based treatments are clinically available, alternative strategies to increase endogenous GLP-1 release from L cells are hampered by our limited physiological understanding of this cell type.

Quantification of cathepsins B and L in cells [PDF]
A method for quantifying active cysteine proteinases in mammalian cells has been developed using an active-site-directed inhibitor. Fluoren-9-ylmethoxycarbonyl(di-iodotyrosylalanyl)-diazomethane (Fmoc-[I2]Tyr-Ala-CHN2) was prepared and shown to react irreversibly with cathepsins B and L, but not with cathepsin S.
